I just noticed that my chinchilla has a bald patch on the middle of his tail. The skin is pinkish and scaly, and doesn't look good. I plan on taking him to the vet ASAP, but can anyone tell me what it is?

Thanks!!

here is a picture of his tail. It looks pinker in real life, but the pink doesn't show up that well in the picture.

It looks like fungus to me, although I don't have a lot of experience with it.

If it is fungus (perhaps someone else will chime in) there's no need for a vet visit. If you have blu-kote you can put it on there and it will get rid of the fungus. If you don't have any you can buy it at farm or tractor supply stores.

Some people will also put some tinactin in the dust. I'm not sure of dosage on that, so you could always search for it up in the search feature.

For the Tinactin I think i was advised 1 tablespoon per cup of dust. I'll have to double check though.
