On Christmas Eve, I will be getting two more male chinchillas! I will have a total of 5! I cannot wait to have them. They are both standards. My friend who lives very close to the guy who is giving them to me will be bringing them to me. She has no clue how to care for them, but she is just going to be getting them in the morning and I will have them that same day. Is there anything besides a carrier that I should send with her? Should I send my extra water bottle with her? Also, should I send her with hay and apple wood? I am just not sure what time at night I will finally get them. I just want her not to have to worry about anything. Plus when her hubby found out that they were 'rodents' he was kind of grossed out. So I am hoping that they will realize tonight at my house that they aren't that gross. LOL! I know that she will do what I tell her, but I want them to have an easy car ride...

Only for a few hours. They are coming from Chicago. I think it would take me 3 hours to get to them from my house. I am meeting her in South Bend though. So only 2 hours with her. One with me.

I guess what I should have asked is, how long will they be with her before they get to you?

If they are only going to be on the road for 3 hours before they get home, they shouldn't need anything.

If they are going to be on the road for 3 hours plus sitting somewhere for a few hours in between before they get to your house, you may want to send her with a water bottle and hay.

Congrats, btw.

Well, I am not positive yet on the times. I know they are meeting in the morning, but I do not know whether she is going to come earlier then or wait until when they were supposed to leave at night. He is giving me the rest of his feed for them since I use a different feed. I will go ahead and send hay and a water bottle.

Also, how do I need to switch over their food? Right now they are on Mazuri and I feed Tradition...

If you have enough, I like to feed the chin whatever feed they were originally on for about a week when they first come to my house. After that, the general rule is:

1st week of feed change: 1/4 new food, 3/4 old food.
Week 2: 1/2 new food, 1/2 old food.
Week 3: 3/4 new food, 1/4 old food.
Week 4: all new food.

even on short trips, i like to give my boys an apple stick to keep them busy. ;)

and you could always toss a hay cube in there for good measure!
