My mom is having surgery for her prolapsed bladder tomorrow and we're hoping she will be home on New Year's Eve.

This is an incredibly difficult time for her and she mourns the loss of my sister and struggles daily with the guilt cancer was passed from her to Lisa. I'm worried that with this surgery she will be unable to do much of anything for a good 6 weeks. That means sitting around, not being able to go out and shop and visit her friends--which means she'll be sitting around thinking more and more about Lisa and that she is gone from our physical lives.

She had a hysterectomy 13 years ago and got very sick after she was released from the hospital so she is very afraid of the same thing happening again.

I have total faith in her doctor, as he is my doctor, and the best there is--especially for this surgery.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks!

I will keep mom in my thoughts tomorrow Laurie. Let her know we are all thinking of her and pulling for a speedy, complication free surgery and recovery.

Best wishes to your mom for a successful surgery and a swift recovery. I'll keep you both in my thoughts xxxxx

If it was the anesthesia, it has improved a lot in 13 years. Be sure to tell the Anesthesiologist. S/he can find out what was used and use something else. Maybe wear masks so she doesn't catch a bug. Perhaps probiotics might help her immune system. You yourself should find out about her activity restrictions and when they improve. She may say she can't do anything, and that may not be true. Even if she is nonweightbearing she might be able exercise her upper body which will make her feel better.
I will include you and your family in my prayers. (Hugs Theresa)

Catching this a bit late. I hope the surgery went well. Perhaps she can work on a scrapbook of Lisa as a little girl, something that brings her back to a happier time. She will be able to sit up in a few days and do crafty things. If she likes to paint, and if there are any still out there, maybe she could do some Christmas ornaments to donate to a needy family next year. If you attend church, maybe you could ask the church secretary if there are bulletins that need work, or letters that need stuffing. These are little things that will keep her busy a few hours a day.

Mom's surgery went very well! It took shorter than the norm and Dr Fox had absolutely nothing to report. I wanted to kiss him as he ordered antibiotic for her right away because he remembered her hysto and the infection she got.
At the last minute we talked her into a spinal instead of general anaethesia and she was alert and talking in the recovery room! She was in no pain at all the entire day--hopefully the morphine from the spinal will last until today. When I left at 7pm last night she was nauseous and getting sick, but I hope it didn't last through the night. Hopefully she's not allergic to the morphine as that's what he ordered for the pain.
Visiting hours aren't until 11am! I told the nurse, well i'll be here tomorrow at 9am--LOL! She said no worries they won't turn me away.
Both Nel and I will be spending the day with her today and we're hoping she comes home on Thursday. I know Dr Fox will do his best.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO THOUGHT OF US AND KEPT US IN THEIR PRAYERS!

Mom has a picture of Lisa by her bedside, and I took a quiet moment yesterday to thank Lisa for watching over us!
