I guess I'm not surprised. I once found a little boy around 2yrs in my backyard, in nothing but a diaper, just before a big summer storm. He didn't know where he lived, where he came from, and he wouldn't even tell me his name. I carried him up and down the street until I found someone who recognized him (about 7 houses down). I knocked on a door and mom came out, looking VERY surprised. :banghead: Apparently he let himself out the back door while mom was watching tv.

Kids aren't stupid, there's not reason a two year old shouldn't be able to unzip a tent, it's not like zipping a coat, you don't have to line it up, just pull it up.

The whole story seems weird to me. I doubt they didn't hear him, 2 yr olds don't really have the full aspect of "sneaking out quietly". Chances are he woke up, flailed around, probably tried to wake them up, talked, etc.

I know people that could sleep through a bear gnawing their leg off. Heck, my dad has slept through mom's snoring for years.

Hope they find him.

Ugh, Laurie weird things happen. I'm not defending the family in the story BUT my nephew's 2 year old got out of the tent on her own. He took his family camping last year and they were all asleep in the tent, Gianna was 5 and Bri just turned 2. Sarah was very early in her pregnancy with Peyton and she said that both girls were completely knocked out when she got up because she was feeling ill and went to the car for some a/c. She also swears that she closed/zipped the tent after she left. But somehow Bri got out of the tent, most likely looking for Sarah. She had been in the car for almost a 1/2 hour before she went back to the tent and happened upon Bri who was asleep outside of the tent by the folding chairs. They were soooo frikkin lucky.

I hope they find this baby ok.

I'm pretty much assuming this child is not okay. They noticed him missing at 1:45 am. The campground is near water, very close to water actually. He weighs about 20lbs and it's pretty dang hot in the summer time.

I don't have too high of hopes this boy will be found--or alive

I will definitely be saying a prayer for this child and his family. Stranger things have happened and he may very well be found alive, and I hope that is the case here, but like Laurie said: the chances are slim that either will happen and most likely he will be found dead from drowning. And this is going on if what the parents are saying is true, and they did not have something to do with it.

That's too bad. Although I can't say I'm surprised... it seems so much nowadays that parents are sort of lacksidasical in watching and caring for their kids... Besides the fact that the story seems a little fishy... little kids like to crawl around and explore. That's why we have those electrical-socket covers and those thingies to hold cabinets closed. Opening a tent is rather easy... I guess if I was camping with a toddler... I'd have thought of some way to close that tent so the kid couldn't get out. The tent we used once had two zippers (I dunno if they're all like that)... use a tiny padlock to hold them closed, and voila, no one gets out without the key (and a toddler isn't going to be able to get that unlocked) or something. Just seems this could have been prevented somehow.

Just a bit ago around here, there was a 2-3 year old who died from drowning in a retention pond near the parents' home. I mean, yeah, it's too bad the child died, but gotta ask... how well were the parents watching their kid? That was in the middle of the day...

You can not padlock a tent closed... what if there was a fire or other emergency?

I suppose I didn't think about that. Regardless, I still think something more could have been done to ensure the kid didn't leave the tent. I don't know what... maybe have several people sleep by the door in a way so that the kid would have to be stepping all over them to get out.....maybe simply don't take really young kids camping, that completely eliminates the risk. I just think in general, parents need to be more aware of where their kids are and what they're doing.

No you cannot padlock at tent but when are lying in the tent with the child next to you, and you are not the child's mother--YET, you should **** well feel him when he gets up. You could have also had the bottom of the tent zipped out so it wasn't easy for him to slip out or something to slip in.

Emmett the other little boy wandered off while his mother was taking a nap, he left with the dog. He had wandered as far as 4 miles away from the house in nothing but a diaper and tee shirt I believe

Unless you are little people, big world, toddlers cannot reach a door to unlock it. I don't recall knowing any toddler two years old being able to unlock a locked door.

Both of these situations are sad stories. If there was no foul play involved then I'm sure the parents and soon to be adopted parents of these boys are living their own personal ****. If they aren't then I hope when they meet their maker he sends them to ****.
