The main thing that I would be worried about would be bringing them back in to the US.
I find it funny that they require micro chips for dogs in Greece....the reason. If you get a chance to visit Athens, especially the area around the Acropolis, count how many stray dogs you see wandering around, begging for food. There are more dogs than tourists. Though they did somehow get rid of some with the Olympics being there, they just came back.
Crete.....the islands are the best. I have a cousin on Crete but in another area. You'll be close to Santorini. One of the most beautiful of the Greek islands. Definitely take the time to visit it.
The language is tough. And one word of advice. Work out or you will put on ten pounds in one month (shish-ka-bob) . And when you come back, Greek food will never taste the same
