Any strong smells will make a rodent think twice about something. Fresh moth balls are more readily available (and cheaper) than a bottle of pure oil of peppermint (not extract), but I prefer the peppermint when I can get it. I think it was $16 at my pharmacy for a 3 oz bottle which, considering how little it takes for 1 pantry cupboard, goes a Long way. A box of mothballs is maybe $4.00?

This trap is awesome Multiple Catch Trap works great for mice or run away hamster. Put some food in the may compartment so they don't starve and when caught release very far from you house or put hamster back in there cage.

My solution to no mice is have 10 cats..... xD The mice wont even attempt to come in...they can sense danger xD

I really like the idea of that trap, I think I will head out to Home Depot today and see if I can find something like that, thanks!

apparently the ones in my house can sense anything :( I have 4 cats, they are all pampered indoor cats that had never even seen a mouse but boy did they know what to do with the two that dared to come in

do you put the peppermint oil on cotton balls OR just leave the bottle open??

i HATE the smell of mothballs and the one spot I found droppings is under my stairs and the chins are against that wall.........so I would prefer nothing harmful. i am hoping to clean out that area this weekend........
so if there are any other options that don't involve glue or snapping or basically death in general i would appreciate any suggesstions.

as a side note: i was cleaning last year and found a small nest with a mama & babies....she jumped at me and i screamed like a girl..........but i was so worried about her babies that i left them for her to come get them. i just couldnt kill them. they were so cute.

Yep, cotton ball or a napkin, and not too much or you can turn all the grains etc. in your pantry minty. Under the stairs, though, you'd probably be okay with a pretty heavy saturation. If you can figure out how they're getting in, a ball of it there is a good start to keep more explorers from joining the party.

I had a hole under my kitchen sink. Found just one mouse. When I evicted it, I filled the hole with steel wool. Has worked just fine, no more visitors.

A friend has an indoor cat, who dreams of being an outdoor cat. Often he does want to go OUT. Solution is that the cat is allowed to go out into the enclosed garage (it is semi finished off as "rec room" no cars) He will spend time out there..and often my friend will find a dead mouse or two at the door.

Peppermint oil sounds great! I wonder if Whole Foods has it, I could soak up a paper towel and stuff it into the hole behind my oven

I used a couple of "no see" traps from wal-mart. Caught two mice, and haven't seen any lately. But then again i make sure there's no food down there. Darn things!!!
