I have been considering getting Sebastian the Chinchilla Lodge off www.martinscages.com. Has anyone bought one of those before? They look like good quality, especially for the price. It's not much longer than the one he has but it's wider and much taller (he's in a one story home now). He's not unhappy in his cage he had now but I kinda wanted to provide some shelves and maybe a hammock.
So I guess my questions are:
The wire mesh floor, can I remove it?
Can the ramps be removed?
Would anyone recommend this cage?

Thanks.

The cages come to you broken down and ready to assemble, so you don't have to put the ramps in. Honestly, what I would do if you don't want to use the wire shelves or ramps is just order the L-517 reptile cage in galvanized steel, it's a bit cheaper, same dimensions, and it's already a slide out pan. Then, you're basically getting a shell you can put wooden ledges in and other stuff.

You can get the cage with a set in pan, where you just lift the cage out of the pan if you wish. You can also ask them to remove the ramps where they will refund 2$ per ramp.

Tori, $2 per ramp is nothing. That's $4 bringing the price down to $69 ($89 if it's a pullout tray) whereas the Reptile 517 is already $69 with a pullout tray. When cleaning cages, the pullout tray is much easier than the drop in.

Also, she doesn't want the "floors" either, which makes me picture just an empty shell. In that case, the empty reptile shell would be best, unless she wants the drop in pan.

Maia, if you want an empty shell (cage without shelves and ramps) that's drop in, give Martin's a call and ask what the price would be.

Oh cool, I didn't know drop in pan= no wire floor. I still might order the Chinchilla Lodge since it looks like the reptile cage has a plastic pan.

With the reptile cage, there is a wire grid over top of the pan. All in all, it's your choice, but the drop in pan means exactly that. You're gonna have to lift the cage out of it every time you clean. :)

I have a matins cage and love it! Spending the extra money on the pull out tray is worth it...and will save you tons of time with clean up...I never removed any ramps or shelves and my chin has been doing great, but a lot of people have...Is it okay to keep them in?:hmm:

I've had a Martin's High Rise with a slide out pan for about a year it is a nice sturdy cage and it is working just fine. However there are several things about it that I don't like:

-Wire ramps and shelves were tough on my chin's feet (I eventually replaced them with wood)
- It is a pain in the rear to disassemble which makes cleaning the wire grate a hassle (removing it may be my next modification)
-The wire spacing is too small to stick your fingers in to give scritches, so I have cut out larger holes in a few places

If I were to ever get another similar cage I would go with a similar model Quality Cage because they already come with Wooden shelves. Good luck with your decision.
