A friend of mine received a random email from someone (that she hadn't sold to) regarding a lump by her chin's penis.

Her vet is not very familiar with the care and surgery of chins. She said, "He does not think the penis is involved but when I look at it the lump looks to be on one side of penis and on the other side as well." And, "He thinks the can get it all if he operates."
Wouldn't you want to know what it was first?

I'm going to look at the vets on this site, I believe she's close to Lincoln, NE.

But, here's a picture. Please let me know if you've seen something similar...

Wow, I've never seen that before. My boys' regions down there tend to get a little larger from time to time, but that's normal. What's in the picture definitely does not look normal.

I agree, I would want to know what it was too before the vet just slices him open. I would also want a vet that is actually experienced with chins!

Keep us up to date if you can. I hope they find a better vet.

i would not let a vet that "thinks" he can get it all. i wouldnt let a vet touch my chin that has not done a similar operation or removal on a chinchilla before.
hopefully you can find her a qualified vet or maybe someone here can recommend.
poor baby.

Nicole (Riven) is in Nebraska, I believe. You could PM her and ask what vet she uses. I also know Peggy travels a good bit for her vet from SD, but I don't know in what direction... (if it's in NE, or in another part of SD that the woman would be willing to drive to.)

It looks to me like it could be an abscess as well, but she definitely needs a vet that actually knows what they are doing.

I wonder if it's a hernia. Get it all? What does that mean? With it being so close to the penis, you bet I would want to know what IT is before someone starts cutting on it. That's nuts. There should be some decent vets in Lincoln. I know there are some excellent ones in Omaha. I've been to two there. Outstanding vet in Sioux City, but that's probably way more than she's willing to drive.

That was my thought, Peggy. How is he going to "get it all" without even knowing what "it" is? I'm encouraging her to insist this lady find another vet. Mapquest says Omaha and Lincoln are about an hour apart. Will you PM me the info for the vets you've seen in Omaha? I'll PM Nicole as well.
Thanks!

Dead thread, but I just stumbled upon this and I have to say, before I had looked at the picture, I thought you were talking about his little testicles!

Then I saw the picture. :(

I don't remember getting a pm... but maybe I skipped over it somehow?

Anyway, what ever became of this guy anyone know?

The first thing I thought out was an inguinal hernia, never seen one in chins before, but I have in humans... It basically when intestines are shoved though the inguinal canal that the testes drop through.
