My one girl, Kali, had three unexpected babies Wednesday.
Today I lost one :(
He was the littlest one. I got home today, and he was still breathing. He was laying weird on his side, and he had some blood on the top of his nose and by his eye. I took him to the vet. She said that most likely the other two wouldn't let him drink from mom, and were fighting with him. He was extremely dehydrated. The other day I noticed a little bit of fighting, but after monitoring them for awhile, they seemed to be okay. He looked like he was drinking from mom just fine. The vet gave him two large injections of water and sugar to help him rehydrate. Also his blood sugar was really low, so that's why she added sugar. His sugar levels were so low that he was unconscious and his brain wasn't functioning properly, and so he wasn't breathing right. His heart beat had become very weak, so she gave him a third injection to make his heart start working better. She gave me formula and said that if he wakes up and is conscious enough to swallow, I should give him some formula. He never became conscious enough. For over an hour he was doing great. He was breathing regularly (after over 3 hours of not breathing regularly) and he was even moving a little, and squeaking. I kept trying to feed him but he wouldn't swallow it. It was weird, he was doing so great, and then all of a sudden I lost him...
I feel so terrible, like I should have done more. Poor little baby :(

R.I.P. little one :(

It still amazes me how brutal kits can be on their siblings, and it can happen anytime with any litter!
As said, above, it's an unfortunate part of breeding!

I'm so sorry about your poor little guy :( I hope the others remain healthy.

We all know that in the wild it is always the law of the strongest as sad as it may seem this includins humans if you really think about it. This remindes me of a program I saw of pinqeoins in the north pole, the first sibling pushes the younger sibling away from the nest to die (dies from starvation or taken from a prey bird) just because he has come out of his shell 1-2days later.

it never ceases to sadden me
