I'm so desperate I was joking with the guy at the retaurant we go to about it, and he said they were hiring a prep cook. It's part time, cutting up veggies and chicken. 4 hours a day, under 10 an hour. I don't eat meat, but I filled out the application anyway... I would be thrilled to get that job. Very sad. Probably won't though... Will here another overquallified speech.

My god, even my dad never made 70K a year in the end (he's retired). I just discovered that my govermenet give only 55% of your salary as unemployment so instead of 31K, I'll have 17K. Honestly, I really don't know how I'm gonna pull trough (thanks mom, dad and grandma).

well my family is also struggling in this economic crisis. It seems like everyday it gets worse. but i pray and hope it gets better but doesnt look like it is going to happen anytime soon...unfortunately. But i wish everyone of you the best for the future and hope evryone gets back on track with a new job and everything with no worries. I am tired of being stressed out and im sure everyone else is too. :) I wish everyone the best! Sunshine, i am sorry to hear that about your job and everyone else who mentioned getting laid off. This breaks my heart. I am a mother of 4 children and my husband had been laid off since january ever since then he has been busting tail trying to find another job in the same trade he had experience in but no one was hiring. but thankfully my dad got him to apply where he works at and he has an interview monday...i am so happy for him i could scream. But times are tough right now but we all need to make the best of it no matter what.
God bless !

Um, can I just say - wow? There are people who would kill to make $70K right now, who are losing their homes, giving up their pets, eating into their retirement. Your dad is 62 years old. He should be grateful ANYBODY would want to hire him.
Oh believe me, I know, but he just doesn't get it. He has 6 degrees (I think 6? maybe 7) and he thinks that means he'll have no problem getting a job until he's like 90. And really, the problem is that most companies would rather pay someone with ONE degree in the field they NEED, and pay them $25k or so rather than pay someone with a ton of degrees and feel the need to pay them more.... he's got a very I'm-important-and-necessary-and-indispensable type attitude... *sigh*

I've was laid off in December, the company I worked for closed all stores early March. Luckily we are able to survive on one income, but we've cut our spending habits to the essentials and jut a couple frivolous things a month, like dinner and a movie out. We ended up eating a lot of our savings until we could lower some bills, and wait til a few things were paid off - that helped, but we're working on getting that built back up.

For anybody that has a plasma center nearby (they are in a lot of college towns) consider doing that. When we need it, it is a tank full of gas, some groceries, or a little to save.
