I know that you can give chinchilla's loofah but I just want to make sure on something. The loofah given to chinchilla's is different than the loofah type items at say walmart yes? The reason I ask is because I saw on here some for sale but it was said that it was made from a sheet and I got to wondering where do you buy some. I know you can grow it, so is that what people who have their own on here do?

Well, since I am selling loofah chews...

I discovered that a lot of the cosmetic bath item stuff at stores is bleached loofah so I have natural unbleached whole loofah that I use for chin chews. And I was having so much fun that I decided to offer them for sale. Since I cut out the cores of the loofah I'm left with just the outside part, like a sheet of loofah. And the denser ones are good for cutting into shapes, where the fluffier ones are good for chopping into nibs.

Loofah sold here vs. Walmart are the same plant, only the ones you buy to use on humans are bleached. If you ever get a loofah and it's white or very light cream, it's been bleached and not safe for chin consumption. I know sometimes people sell that kind, but I wouldn't buy it. Natural is a light tan color.

You can grow your own, it grows on a vine, but then you would need to let it dry out and take the skin off. I'm not sure where others buy theirs but I buy mine wholesale, since I sell it. Your cheapest option would probably be buying it from someone who sells it online.

Agreed. I order mine wholesale as well and it's different than what you would find in a store, not only in color but it has an earthy smell and has TONS of seeds so I always soak mine in hot hot water and dry it out in a low oven. It's more work but I know my chinnies are worth it.

definitely get your loofah from members on here. i got a baggie of loofah nibblies from Alli (Camphor) and Rhino seems quite pleased with them.

I figured they were different. I was just curious as to where this comes from so thanks for the info and yes, I will be getting some from someone before doing it myself.

I buy mine online as well and I also grow some.

I've grew loofah for the last 2 years. The first year they didn't make anything. Just vined everywhere. Last year, the vined out really well and I got 3 Loofah's off of the vine but an early frost killed them. :/

What wholesale store do you purchase yours from??? I purchased some off LuckyVitamin.com, but I'm not sure if those are bleached or not.....
