Okay, here's my first poll ever!

I'm wondering which water bottles everyone prefers? The Lixit glass water bottles, or the Super Pet water bottles?

I've found that I can get the Lixit round glass water bottles with one of my suppliers, so I was thinking of discontinuing the Super Pet glass water bottles on my site and replacing them with the Lixit ones. They'd be the same price roughly, $6 for the 8 oz and I can also get the large 16 oz one.

To me, I like both bottles, so I don't care either way, but it seems like maybe some people prefer the Lixit?

Input please! :D

Perfect timing !!! As I was going to ask this question myself ! Thank you Alli for doing it for me ! Smiles...
I need to get three new bottles, as I have had problems with "Leaking", Dribbles and such.
I did receive a a water bottle in a cage I purchased which had a "Spoke Thing" out of the end of it, How the Chins drank from it, I have no clue - I would not want to lick a "Spoke Thing" ! (You know what I mean...:).
I have a "Critter Canteen" as well as two other bottles, Not satisfied - So what is THE BEST non leaking, no dribble, (Even with the kids moving in the night) type water bottle (However, easy for them to use ?)? I have seen Lixit bottles starting at 4.69 (Plus Shipping) - What is the difference between "Lixit" and the other glass bottles ? Do they all have "Ball-baring" (sp) type tubes to drink from ? Major Thank yous !!!

The spoke thing was just a lever valve instead of a ball valve, most likely. The chins just push on the lever with their teeth or tongue and water comes out. This is the type that I use because they don't drip or leak, so they use less water and less water means less wet shavings and less smell.

The Lixit bottle seems to be a bit more reliable than the Super Pet. Although, I really like my drip free, gravity driven flow bottles. :)

I've been using the superpet since they first came out - double balls seem like a good idea for 'backwash/backflow'! Never had a leaker!
Easy to clean/sanitize in a dishwasher or using a bottle brush!
Designed to go inside/outside the cage, without being chewed!
Just gotta remember to "start" them by bouncing them on the heel of your hand - bubbles come up and you're good to go!

I hate the superpet HATE them. I bought several and they were constantly stopped up my poor chinnies could not get water out of them

now I have the lixit from the bird section with the turtle in them....They drip a tiny bit but I like them

We use Lixit exclusively but recently we have also recommended the Superpet for our clients since these have accumulated a decent track record.

If a Lixit continually leaks, it may be caused by 1 of 3 problems. The cap may not be screwed on tight or the gasket is worn. This allows air to seep into the bottle and it will leak. Second, there may be a bit of build-up on the ball or spout. A small brush has woked well for cleaning inside the spout. These are available from Lixit or, under a different brand but the same 2 in 1 brush can be found at PetsMart. Lastly, if the bottle is not mounted vertically (without any slant) it can leak.

It doesn't seem to matter how full a Lixit bottle is. Filling with cold water from the fridge often results in a little leakage until the ball and spout even out in temp.

We take the turtles out just in case they would leach chemicals into the water over time. They're not needed.

I've got a glass one but I have no idea which brand it is. It didn't come with a little plastic bauble on the inside like you guys are explaining but it was in the bird section. On occasion it leaks but not badly. My only gripe is it doesn't stay attached very well to the cage because it slides out of the metal spring it came with to attach to the cage bars.

I have all Lixit bottles here. I also pull out the turtle piece. I've only had a few leaks with them and it was from me not putting the tops on straight or tight. I have never used the Superpet bottles so, I can't comment on their quality.

I had the stupid pet one lol and it leaked and it rusted rather fast. Someone recommeded the Lixit to me, and I love them! I have not had one issue with them, and I am with Rick on the leaking. Usually mine will only drip if I dont have the rubber in the cap correctly.

It was also suggested to me to yank the plastic turtle as it can harbor bacteria. So I yanked it. Better safe then sorry and I didnt need it in there anyway :D

You can scrub the turtle off and keep it clean. :p

There was this one bottle that came in with some rescues - I wash any bottles immediately upon them coming here. This bottle had a turtle in it and it had a stripe down it's back. I thought that it was kind of cute that way. However, when I took it out, it was a stripe of disgusting algae...that came right off when I scrubbed it with my finger tips.

Anything in the bottles is a surface for bacteria to grow.

If your water bottle won't mount right or tight enough, try usig the mounting bracket from Superpet. They look like a long strip of white metal with a separate 'T' piece that is holed for the spout. I use them on cages with horizontal bars.

Stronger springs are also available. Call Lixit customer service and they'll give you the part # and a retailer. The heavy springs are used in a Lixit dog product.

Thanks for your input guys, seems the Lixit are the preferred choice. I've used both, and don't mind either, so that's why I asked :))

I did go ahead and order some of the smaller Lixit ones

I would have to say the Lixit, because of the non leakage issue, but my Herby would probably say the Super Pet. When I got her from my sister, there was a Super Pet bottle in the cage and she loved it. But when I had to replace it, she snubbed the replacement bottle.
But I love the Lixit bottle, as long as the rubber stopper thingie goes in right. It took me over an hour the other night to get the thing in right!
