I mentioned in another thread http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4894 that my one chin starting having some softer poo that had an odor when i squished it. I questioned if having an odor is always indicative of giardia or if there were other reasons.
so in my efforts to make sure he is okay i am going to clean out his cage.
i read so many times to line the bottom with paper towels to monitor urine & fecal output. so my questions are:

1. Will they eat the paper towels?
2. Do you only line with paper towels or do you use anything else

We are in the middle of building a cage, so he is currently in a cage that is lined with carefresh.

Thanks!

They may nibble on the paper towels, but they aren't going to suck them down like candy. Mine gave a taste test then got bored. They do sometimes wad them up and stuff them in a corner though, so you will end up changing them several times a day.

When I have a chin that I am concerned about their output, I only use papertowels. Anything else could absorb/hide urine and feces and I might miss it.

Paper towels work best, and I have never had a problem, even if they nibbled a bit on them. The white carefresh works too, but not nearly as much, and it costs so much more. Hope he feels better soon!
