Unlike the heat lamps for reptiles that provide light and warmth during the day and turn off at night, hedgie need the heat regulated all the time, but lighting on consistent on during day/off at night schedule.
For lighting, you can go with a regular bulb. I have mine screwed into desk lamps that are hooked up to timers so they come on just before I do morning cage cleaning and off just after play/snuggletime is over at night.
For heat, you can use ceramic heat emitters. The emit heat, but not light. They need special dome lamps that are specially made (and rated for) che's. And you need to plug them into a thermostat controller.
I'd suggest googling big apple herp and checking out the heating packages for ideas. Stay away from the undercage heaters.
