Anyone heard of L'avian brand chinchilla food and dust? Its at little local pet store and i was curious if its any good, i usually get Zupreem Natures Promise, which i'm also not sure about but it seems better then alot of the stuff we sell at petco.
So anyone know if this L'avian is anygood? :3

I fed L'avian when I first got chinchillas. It wasn't the worst food out there - it doesn't have all of those extra fillers and crap in it like Kaytee or something, just pellets - but certainly isn't the best either. I worried about the freshness of it...

I agree, it isn't a bad food at all. It's certainly better than a lot of the other petstore brands. I've had customers that have used it and it kept the chins healthy and their fur looked nice. If it was between that and the more common petstore brands, I'd probably say to go with it. But, like Dee said, because it's from a petstore the freshness is always going to be a concern.

That's a weird tip about chins overeating! Is that right on the label?

Yeah Susan that's on the label.
My girl did fine on it, I still have her 6 years later. If that had been the only "decent" feed available to me she would have stayed on it but, like I said, I worried about freshness and could get fresh Mazuri.

It is still tons better than Kaytee or similar.

Tons better!! I agree with that for sure.

It's been years since I have heard anything about this feed. It must be a specialty line. And, if it's from smaller petstores, it's probably better to give them business over a national chain. Buy local first... :)

So compared to Natures Promise it is better?
When i get natures promise from Petco, since I work there i usually grab it straight out of the shipment but the L'avian is from a little store by my house i'm not sure how long its been on the shelf (I dont think anyone has chins in the area). Then agian i'm not sure how long the natures promise been in the petco warehouses. o.0

Well Nature's Promise doesn't have the goodies either...

Feeding & Storage Directions: Feed 2 tablespoons per day. Reduce or increase the amount depending on your chinchilla's overall body condition. Provide plenty of fresh, clean water. When introducing a new food, begin with a mixture of the "old" and "new" foods. Gradually increase the amount of new food over a 7-10 day period. Store in a cool, dry place, free of pests and insects. Reseal after each use.

I used their dust and I had no problems with it at all. Just so you know, it does have sparkles in it and makes them sparkle. (some people aren't into that, but I like it).

I tried blue cloud and I couldn't tell a big difference (besides no sparkle).. but who knows, maybe if I had two chins next to each other using different dust I could tell. From what everyone says Blue Cloud does make a difference.

I like the ingredients in the L'avian better...but that's just me. I have never used Nature's Promise and I don't think I have heard of anyone using it so I can't report on how good or bad it is for chins.

It's awful that you don't have the mill dates for these foods. Those are so much more helpful than expiration dates.
