My chin ADORES lava ledges
My chinchilla got his first lava ledge the day I brought him home. I bought it before I picked him up. For the first few days he ignored it. Then he started sitting on it a lot, scratching it, and nibbling on it. Once he had most of the blue gone, he really starting biting chunks off. I've had him for about 10 months now and there's only 1/4 of it left. He chews it a lot now, so it's suddenly disappearing quickly. It's above a shelf and he rolls in the dust that comes off-it's cute to watch the whole process that he does every single day! He chews a little, scratches at the spot he chews, and then does 1 or 2 quick rolls. Then he does these 3 steps in order again and again for a few minutes at a time, a few times a day. I just bought him 2 more, this time off the internet instead of from PetSmart (or was it Petco)-they were a few dollars cheaper-I'll try to remember the site I got them from since I've bought from quite a few since we brought him home. He hasn't really bothered with the new ones yet, still demolishing the old one. I highly reccomend pumiced ledges (lava ledges) to all chinchilla owners and most rodent owners! They're so great for teeth and nails.
