OK, when this first happened, it freaked me out. but now I've gotten used to it, but I'm just wondering if this is normal.

I have a little girl who is almost a year old. but almost every time i stick my hand in her cage she'll stand up on he back legs, screech, and launch pee all over my hand. it's gross, but I've learned to dodge it. it's funny, because she's all mean and snarly inside of her cage, but once i get her out she's all clingy and loving. is she just territorial? and what about the pee launching, is that normal? i had her checked out by a vet and he said that she seemed fine and docile. i just don't get it XD

Territorial, scared, cranky - pick one or all of the above. A lot of times they will do this in their cage and not when they are out. You can either do like you do, and dodge it, or when I see a female rear up I might chuck some shavings at her belly, which distracts her. I also has one that is so bad that I finally got a spray bottle, put warm water in it, and sprayed her back. After 2 or 3 times she stopped. Not soaked mind you, just a quick spray.

I use a folded newspaper that I hold in front of the chin with one hand and get the chin with the other. If I am trying to do something in the cage I just get the folder newspaper in front of the chin and do 'whatever' with the other hand. That way, she only soaks the newspaper not me

My first chin would occasionally spray. It usually meant that she wanted you to get back. It helped to wait until she came to me to take her out of her cage.
I'm lucky that Idgie never sprays and has never even taken the position.

I would say scared or anything previously mentioned.

I have a male that has does this, which I found odd. He only does it to his cage mate (rarely) now, but he had done it to me a few times.
