So I had this standard kit born 7 wks ago to a black dad and beige mom. Ever since day one he has looked a bit odd to me in the head. He's a 100 grams smaller than his sibling and to me looks nothing like any of them. I am posting pics of him, his sister, mother, father, and of mom's last litter that looks like her.

What do you all think? It's the standard kit in question. He's 7 wks old.

Very cute, the thing that strikes me about him is how dark the tips of his ears are. That is very unusual.

Can't wait to see photos in another month or two. :))

I think she's questioning if he could be a dwarf. And he has some of the traits, those hind feet are big, long flat forehead... How does he move? Is it like a normal kit or is it a different kind of gait?

I think the best way to find out would be to send the sister to me for evaluation... I'll send a carrier and do the evaluation at no charge.

I was going to say the same thing Nicole - he seems to have the dwarf characteristics. That head was definitely a giveaway.

When I first was watching him a few weeks ago he was doing more walking than hopping but I just took him out and he was hopping like he should be. He is very sweet and is always to the front of the cage. I had just sold him a week ago but am very paranoid that if he is indeed a dwarf that his lifespan may be shortened-or is developmental not 100%. He's going to a pet home. I feel like I should back out of the sale and offer the woman another standard. I am just not experienced with dwarves. He does have big thighs.

Should I keep him and watch how he grows-or send him off to his pet home next month?

But since the sire and the sister have the same face, to me it just seems that he carries the brevi-type gene. His back feet look too big.

I've had alot of brevi kits in the past and he just doesn't look like one to me. Maybe it's just me and I am looking to much into it. I just look at him and say-"what the **** is wrong with you" Not that anything is wrong mentally or health wise-he just looks "weird".

Nicole-his sister is here to grow out. I've been wanting a tov beige for so long. I can't wait to see how she turns out. Although I shouldn't keep her. I did not want too much beige and I seem to be going in that direction.

I would say hang onto him because only time will tell. He looks like a dwarf because of the characteristics nicole stated. It looks dwarf, however, brevi cant be out of the question because if you look at the black male(his father) he has very tiny ears as well, like a brevi. So i would just wait and grow him out and see if he is a dwarf or brevi. And either way, he's cute

Usually a brevi face is more flat and smooshed, like the sisters. His face is very sloped with a long forehead, not smooshed like a typical brevi, that' with the fact he's 100 grams lighter than the sister of the same liter.

I would just let the people know you think he might be a dwarf and explain that you don't know if there are any associated risks, shorter life span, etc. Offer to swap for a different one or for them to keep that one. I've heard a lot of people claim shorter life span, but I've never seen any proof to that. I have a dwarf girl who is atleast six, possibly older with no health issues thus far.

I think the best thing for him would be for you to send him to me for closer, long-term inspection.
...on a serious note, I would keep him to see how he grows out. Then again... :steals: :innocent:
