I read in a couple books about a "king" chinchilla that is now extinct, does anyone know anything about them or have any pictures of what they looked like? I heard they were way bigger then our furry friends and lived at a higher elevation. Not much else was said about them and i'm curious if anyone else knows anything. Didn't quite know where to post this thread so sorry if it doesn't go here.

The king chinchilla is thought to be a subspecies or type of the Brevi. chin. Many differant types or subspecies where given names ,ie the "cordillerana"," Indiana" "boliviana""costina" "raton" Some even argue that the "raton" was a seperate species .most think it was a subspecies /variation of the Costina. Some even debate if Costina was a seperate species or a subspecies of the lanigera.

Oh it's a vischacha!! I WANT ONE!! haha. I got another pic of one for you...

Aren't they adorable? I wanna get one and just squeeze it....

I love this picture from the first link. Look at all that flub!

It looks like a chin crossed with a rabbit...lol! Super cute.

So cute! I would just love to cuddle one of those things- they would need one BIG cage!

Hope the pelting crowd doesn't get wind of these guys! They look huge! Wonder how big their litters are?
Can they be trained for guard duty?
Getting sprayed would knock you back about 5 feet!

Vischacha are not the same as the "Giant Chinchilla" which WAS hunted to extinction long ago. Not much is known about the Giant chinchilla, but they sure would be cool to see!

"The Giant Chinchilla species has been hunted to extinction.[11]" Taken from Wikipedia

So no one has ever seen a pic. Of a true "king chinchilla" then? I know they are extinct now but thought maybe someone knew more about them like size, weight, life span etc...

I've searched google and see things written about them, but no photos as of yet...I'm determined to find one though!
