Keeping hay fresh??

I was wondering if you guys could give me info on how you keep your hay fresh. I buy the small Oxbow brand bags of hay and they smell so fresh and sweet when I purchase them, however before I can get to the bottom of the bag if seems less fresh and again I buy the small bags. After I get some hay out, I twist the bag, how it comes and put the plastic ring back on the bag but it seems like there would be something to keep it fresher.. thanks again!

Hay should be allowed to breath. It needs air or it can get moldy which will make your chinchilla sick. Most people keep the hay in a box with holes cut into it for circulation. You could also use a hamper or basket of some sort for smaller amounts.

Keep it in a cardboard box. I've got a two year old 120lb bale I'm still working on that smells like the day I put it in there.
