I've had my chin for about 2 months, and she's been pretty great so far. I just went on vacation for 2 weeks and had a pet-sitter take care of my chin as well as my other animals. He told me that she wouldn't take a dust bath at all, every day he left it in her cage for half an hour. She's usually SO excited to take one, and even now that I'm home she isn't doing it. Is this an indicator of her being sick or something?

Keep an eye on her feces and urine. Make sure she isn't lethargic and maybe try offering the dust bath at different times. There is such a thing as overdusting, and the chin will just be done with dusting for a while.

I wonder if the chin just was a little nervous about the change in routine and didn't feel comfortable enough to roll around in the dust. Maybe when her routine is established with you again she'll feel better about dusting. Just a guess.

Some chins won't have a dust bath with a stranger around. It's a trust issue since they have to expose their bellies. I would just see how she is now that you are home.

I noticed this the other day! My grandmother and sister were im my room and I was trying to show her how cute it is when Willow takes a dust bath and he would NOT take one, he would sit in it and just stare lol

My chins will dust whenever, with whoever watching...

Have you changed dust? What kind of bath house do you have for her? What kind of dust?

Try putting it in a different pan, like a bread pan or something and see if that helps. Some of those houses are just too small for chins and they can get hurt flopping around. The super pet ceramic houses are cute, but way too tiny for an adult chin.

Don't worry, we'll help you get it figured out.

My chins won't dust when nervous. Someone new was in the room the other day and they wouldn't dust. They are used to a very quiet apartment and only myself and my BF. They are nervous around anyone else. It didn't take long for them to get like that either. They would dust around anyone for the first several weeks (but they were nervous anyhow being new to everything).

As long as poops/eating are good...should be alright.
