I know many people use goat's milk for handfeeding kits. When I was at the feed store today picking up food for the chins, I was just kind of looking around at the ag stuff (I miss my horses sooo much!) and came across this Kid Milk Replacer. I was just curious if this is something that could be used in conjunction with hand feeding, as so many people seem to have problems finding goat's milk when they have an issue. Manna seems to have some other milk replacement options as well, I don't know if anyone had looked at them, including colostrum supplements.

A lot of people use it in a mixture with ground pellets and baby cereal for nursing moms. I sprinkle it in my feeders over their food sometimes for my nursing mothers if I'm not using the mixture.

I used puppy formula for years with great sucess. I use goats milk now but honestly in a pinch I would go back to the puppy formula. I had a very high survival rate with it.

There are very few powdered milk replacers that are not loaded with antibiotics and chemicals. You have to be really careful which one you get. At all the feed stores out here, there is one that has one that is safe, other than that I have to order it in.

I would not use puppy or kitten formula for chins, ever. Regardless of it's use in the past, it is made for an omnivore, not for an herbivore. It's just as easy to go to Wal-Mart and pick up goat's milk (and most Wal-Mart's are now 24/7) as it is to go to a feed store or a vet and get the other.

And no, I personally would not use powdered milk for hand feeding. I've seen people try and the consistency sucks. It's clumpy and thick and it doesn't store well at all. I keep 3-4 cans of the canned goat's milk in my cupboard at all times. If you're going to breed, then be prepared.

The best scenario would be if you are breeding order it ahead of time. Canned or powder it will not spoil if kept sealed. I keep powder here. I have found several stores that sell it but I used to have to order it online... as soon as I was down to two I ordered more.
