I confess,.....
I give my chinnies teeth cleaning by my lips.
A few of my chinnes allow me to French kiss them (my lips and their teeth) at any time.
Don't kill me for this...pls.

If you have cold sores or are a carrier of the virus that causes them (some people are carriers and don't even know it), it can easily be passed to them by having contact with your mouth and could kill them.

Seriously, have you considered how totally unhygenic (not to mention gross) this is? Chins spend a considerable amount of time eating their own faecal matter.................

french kissing a chinchilla???? ewwwwwww!
and totally unsanitary for you, and like Stackie mentioned, the chinchilla could get sick also!

Just ick. Do you let dogs lick your lips after licking their butts? Do you let cats after they clean themselves and lick their genitalia? Seriously, that is beyond disgusting. Aside from the all the nastiness you could pass them, as Claire stated, they eat their poop, they do their own hair ring checks.

The only thing that should be kissing anybody's lips is their significant other.

I read so many people here saying that they kiss their chinchillas.
Lighter kisses should be disgusting and bad, rather than being said 'Oh, cute!"., then. I seem many "oh how cute"-comments to chin kisses here that should have been told not to. Correct?

They also aren't advertising that they "french" their chins. Any mouth to mouth contact should be avoided and common sense should be used.

Ok. My saying "French" is so grossly different from "light pecks by others that frequently overlooked and commented 'cute'. I got the messages and will take them into consideration from now on. Also, I didn't mean to "advertise", and if my post sounded like advertising/bragging(?) my activities, and that annoyed you, that was not I meant. Thanks much.

Look at what you wrote: You have stated that you use your lips on your chinchillas' teeth. No-one else on this forum has ever stated that they "French kiss" their chinchillas nor have mucosal contact with chinchilla teeth.
Think about it - a chinchilla spends time eating their own faecal matter which can get stuck between/on their incisors....... it's beyond disgusting & is a massive infection risk - for both you & the chinchillas.

It's not about you advertising or bragging - it's unsanitary & a health risk.

I definitely have let my cats kiss me on the lips my whole life. Some people think it's gross but whatever. I would never let a dog lick my face, but my parents let theirs do it all the time.

I only kiss my chin on the nose. If there's any risk to the animal of kissing their mouth I will not do it.

Just curious as to why you wouldn't let a dog lick your face if you let a cat? Cat's clean their genitalia too.

In any case, I don't let any animal get near my mouth unless it's cooked meat.

Alli, I am just naturally a cat person. I also think cat kisses are less "wet" than dog kisses and they don't bother me like a dog's.

Maia, regardless of whether you are a cat person...cat mouths are full of horrible bacteria. Cat bites are worse than dog bites because a cat mouth harbors much more bacteria. I love my cats and dogs dearly but I do not let any of them lick my face or mouth, I think it's unhygienic and disgusting.

Frenching your chins...I think everyone has already discussed why that is more horrifying than someone giving kisses to their chins on the head, nose or face in general.

Wow. And I got told once, by an insulted dog owner, that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's mouth! They were horribly wrong but it still bugged me that my allergies to their dog was some kind of insult to them - who encouraged their dog to "give kisses" by licking people's faces!

Anyone who read this thread now knows the dangers of kissing their chinnie - or any animal for that matter. As anyone with allergies will tell you, it's not just the germs. I still let mine close to my face, though.

I love the kissy pic, by the way. So cute!!
