Japanese maple twigs safe?

The only trees I have in my yard are podocarpus and Japanese maples. Does anyone give their chins these woods? I've been buying apple and willow, but it would be nice to have my own supply of chew sticks!

I also have bamboo, but my chin didn't seem too interested in it.

I know that maple in general is considered an unsafe wood, so I assume that includes Japanese maples. I have no idea what a podocarpus is.
