My 1 1/2 year old chinchilla, Madeline has been scratching her ears since I first got her, so I figured that it was part of her grooming routine....but then I noticed that her ears were getting red and the hair behind them was worn down...is this normal? I have seen some cream for ears and feet...will this help? Also, she has these large pink pillows on her hands and feet. These are most likely from her cage bars, and there not peeling but they've gotten larger. I'm thinking of lining the cage bars with fleece, Any Advice?

Thanks!!!!

For scrapes or scratches, im pretty sure, people say blue kote heals them. the ear i have no idea...

Thanks! I'm going to look into some kind of anti-itch cream thats safe for chins...but as of now it isn't a problem:thumbsup:

Another chin-safe product you could try is Bag Balm it helps soothe cuts, scratches, skin irritations, and paw abrasions. Blu-kote might be a little too much for what you are describing and it'll turn the ears blue/purple on the area that you apply it at.

I'm curious about these "large pink pillows"...could you take a photo of them? Chins have pads on their paws/feet, do you mean your chinnie's are really swollen?

I found a site that sells Bag Balm, so I'm going to try that....as for the pillows on her feet, they are not really swollen, but large...and on her hands as well as her feet. It's weird because they've recently gotten larger, and on one hand in particular. She doesn't seem to have any discomfort, but I'll post pics asap. I am planning on using the Bag Balm on her feet as well, to prevent any blistering or bumblefoot!:high5: Thanks for all the help!

Really? I didn't know Walmart had it! Is it the same stuff?

Anyway these are the pics of her feet...sorry they're so blurry!

I went online and found Bag Balm at Walgreens, which is 2 min from my house! Yay! This will help her ears, and hopefully her feet as well! Who knew such local stores sold this stuff? THANKS!!!:clap1:

It's hard to tell for sure but the bottom of your chinnie's feet look normal to me. I put up a pic of my chinnie's foot so that you could compare (disregard his appearance, he is currently being handfed, so he's a littly messy).

He is so cute!!!! Yeah, my chins feet look a lot like that, I wasn't sure if it was normal, but I guess it is! Hopefully the pillows will remain soft....I'm going to use the Bag Balm to prevent bumblefoot or any further blistering! When I took the pictures, she didn't seem to mind me touching them, so I guess it is normal after all! Thanks for the help!!!!:dance3:

Madeline appears to be fine! I guess I over reacted! Her ears aren't too bad, and I'm going to put the cream on them....her feet pillows are also normal! Yay!:grouphug::chin1:
