I have 2 kits from a litter of triplets, one died! They were born Sept 11th 09. I weighed them this morning, one is 190g and other is 230g is this normal? I think they are small? Putting it down to my lack of knowledge with kits/chins. Mammy got pregnant too young also (i don't know who the dad is, i bought her and didn't realise she was pregnant)

Please help.

Those aren't great weights for their age, but they aren't horrible either. Have you made the dry mix for them? That can really help with boosting the weight. At this point, especially if they are opposite sex, they should be weaned from mom. If there is a girl, leave her with mom, but if there's a boy, he needs to go. Mom and the babies can both eat the dry formula, so don't worry about that. The 230 gm is definitely ready to wean, but the 190 is really close too.

Dry formula:
1 part ground/crushed pellets
1 part dried goat's milk or calves milk replacer POWDER
1 part 1/2 baby rice cereal, 1/2 baby oatmeal cereal

Mix that up and put it in with them all day. Keep it fresh, so change it as needed, and it helps a great deal with weight gain on the smaller guys.

Hi, thanks for the reply, i was getting worried about them alright as they seem small for their age! Would mam being so young cause that? As in not looking after them too well? They always have pellets, hay and water freely so i dunno was it me causing it?

Can another female i have eat the formula? I really don't have anywhere to put the boy atm, will mon/tues when the new cage arrives so will have the two cages till then, can i leave him with mom till then? Will he be ok alone till he goes to his new home?

Also re the goats milk can i use the pre-made carton stuff or do i have to use the dried stuff? Do you not add water at all to it? Sorry about all the questions!

The mix is a DRY mix. You do not want to add water or any other liquid to it.

You're not doing anything wrong. They may just end up being smaller chins, or it could be that mom doesn't have quite enough milk for them to become huge monsters, or they could just be slow growers. It's definitely nothing you did and they are doing fine.

It won't hurt the other female to eat the formula. Some mom's eat it and it helps with milk production, some mom's don't touch it, and the other gal may completely ignore it. If she eats it, I doubt it will be much and it won't do any harm.

The boy should be fine until he goes to his new home. You can give him a stuffed critter to cuddle with so he won't be lonely if you'd like. I do that with a lot of my singletons.

Brilliant ok thanks for the info. Will get supplies when im heading home and will start them on it asap.

Thanks again
