I found a chinchilla that needs to go to a good home. He is a sapphire (yes, sapphire) and is 2 years old. He comes with all supplies needed. Is this a good deal? He's $250 for everything.

It depends on where this chin is coming from. Is this from a breeder or is this a chin from craigslist?

I guess if he comes with his supplies and everything. A chinchilla is only worth as much as you are willing to pay. I have paid 500 for sapphires and 200 for sapphires but those were for breeding

Depends on the quality of chin and quality of supplies, even saphire chins can be rat faced, skinny and thin fured.

guess it depends on the supplies & his condition. if its just say a super pet starter cage and a bag of food it is a little steep for a pet. but then again, i rescued all my chins and they were no charge. oh wait, i think i paid 20 bucks for chewy.....but just to save him.

Depending on if he's coming from a knowledgeable source or not, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't a sapphire. People tend to make up fancy names or mix up mutations to try to get more money. Sapphires are pretty easy to mix up with standards if you don't know what you're looking for.

i dont know how far North you are but i am in central jersey, mercer county. i have several standards, a lite ebony, a violet and a sapphire (others too) if you want to see the difference in coat and color, you are more than welcome to stop by. the sapphire i have is a from a breeder here, he has lovely fur but is much smaller than my other boys. a real cutie tho.

when you say all needed supplies what do you mean? a lot of times when you hear that the supplies arent good quality. like if you go to petsmart you can find starter kits for chinchillas that say its all you need to start out but the stuff has horrible quality and isnt chin safe. i agree with the above, many times people on craigslist or any other simular websites get their colors mixed up so i would request to see the chin in person beforehand so you know what you are getting yourself into.
