I'm a little concerned and anxious as to what is going on with my 2 older boys who are also cagemates...as long as I've had them, they have had playtime 3 times a week.

Only recent change is that they have been in their new FN for the past 10 days but this issue with their poops started 4 days ago. Everything else is the same, including their food and cage accessories. I've had both chins for almost 10 months now. They eat oxbow pellets and hay and filtered water. Treats are a few crushed rosehips for each every other day OR a very small piece of a chin cookie instead of the rosehips. I also provide them with lots of wood chews.

Every night and morning, I spot clean around their cage and there is ALWAYS tons of healthy poops on the shelves, in their tunnel & house and floor outside of theire cage as well. In the past 4 days there have been minimal poops from both of them and they are very tiny. No poops on most shelves and very little in their tunnel and none outside of their cage. I've been giving them Lifeline for the past 3 days. They eat and drink like normal. On Thursday, I did add a bottle of unsweetend apple juice and filtered water mixture, and they did drink from that as well as from their usual water bottle, but nothing has changed. I put them in the playpen as usual and their poops became normal! Why I'm concerned is that this has never happened where both have tiny poops and a small amount, even when they are active at night in their cage and on their wheel or jumping on the ledges and such.

Not sure what to do or think about this?!?

The poops are definately getting too small - Why the apple juice? They shouldn't be getting that. Limit the feedings to just hay for a day or too. Absolutely no treats for a while. If that doesn't work, they should go to the vet

We've chatted about this in chat. They are having both kinds of poop at the same time. The stuff on the left is from the playpen, the stuff on the right is from the cage. Turns out they are less active in their new cage, which is probably affecting the size of the poop. As soon as they start running around in the playpen they get normal poops.

I notice this in my chins too. ;)

Yes, Meanie helped me out in chat and we discussed all the possibilities and viewed pics of the old cage and new cage. They are probably not happy with the new set up so we talked about adding things for the middle of the cage. Thank you again Meanie! :)) Also, one of my daughters came up to me and said that they were probably mad that they could no longer hang out on the top shelf (because they are now on the lower half of the new FN) to look out at us like they used to. So, I have a little work to do to make my boys happy again.

Why the apple juice?
The reason why I added the water/apple juice mix bottle for only 12 hours was because I thought that they might be constipated and when I read the FAQ's it had mentioned this mixture. Also, they were not getting any treats when I first noticed that the poops were very small.

Some people give the apple juice mixture to encourage a chin to drink, in hopes of helping out with the constipation. At shows, when the ranchers are worried that the chins might be constipated, they give them raisins or cut pieces of apple to provide liquid and a semi-laxative effect.
