so im getting everything ready and im still deciding on a cage. i would like to get a ferret nation cage but i havent seen an online store that ships to Hawaii which saddens me greatly :( but i have found this one that looks nice and seems good, and it does ship to Hawaii. but i dont want to risk getting a cage thats a death trap.
if this isnt a good cage then what would you suggest? and it would help alot if you could liink me a site that does ship the cages to Hawaii.

Thanks in advance!

I think the Ferret Nation or the Critter Nation is a lot cheaper and I'm pretty sure that the Ferretstore will ship to Hawaii, probably Fosters and Smith too. Have you checked their sites?

I've seen this cage in person. If you plan to have a flying saucer or a chinspin the bars might not be able to hold up to it.

The one pet store I sell a few chins to here and there uses that cage, and the chins seem to LOVE it. But if a chinspin, etc isn't place carefully on those wires, I do not think it will hold up well. But otherwise, VERY nice cage IMO.

it's cool-looking, but i have heard that Prevue cages have kind of wimpy metal. tons of people on here seem really happy with Ferret Nation/Critter Nation.

i have checked both the ferret.com and Fosters and Smith. unless i did something wrong when i would try to buy it, both sites had said that they cannot ship to my address, as well as amazon. im guessing that they cant ship to me because its quite heavy, as this corner cage is like 50 lbs lighter.
as for the cleaning comment, i could care less, i just would like a big cage. the cages they sell at a local pet store near me has a barely decent sized cage, but i would like bigger.

I agree that cage cleaning will be tough with the small doors but I really REALLY like that corner design! If my hedgie cage hadn't been free, I would totally have gotten something nifty like that. I think that's the high maintenance in me, though :) Pretty isn't functional

I thought the same thing as a new owner, I wanted big cages and who cares about the doors, I had the big 5 level super pet ferret cages, those small doors will get old real fast when the chin insists on peeing in the farthest corner of the cage almost out of arms length!

That cage is really not all that sturdy either. I checked it out last year at a trade show. I think you would have bars breaking if you put shelves in or they would bend easily. I'd spend whatever extra for a FN.

all really great feedback guys. guess imma have to look more into the ferret nation cage. which was my original plan but the whole shipping situation was an issue. but imma have to find a way to work around it. thanks again guys!

and about the craigslist custom cage making guy, thats the same state but different island.

max, is there anyone you know who can build you one? i showed my dad pics of some home-built cages that our breeder uses, and the QC chinchilla mansion--he was a carpenter for 40 years, and he's been on the job of building a PALACE for my girl to come home to, using kiln-dried pine and 1/2" steel mesh (and a steel pan for the bottom--his neighbor is picking up that part of the task). so far, he's spent $100.50 in supplies, and we don't expect more than another $20 will need to go into it. he went with oval, which has been a royal pain, even with all his experience, so if you go the building route, make it a rectangle and save yourself a lot of hassle.

Do you have a Petsmart near you? I know Petsmart carries FN's. If they don't carry it in store they may be able to special order you one since the stateside stores carry it.

building a cage

here's my dad last weekend with the Chinchilla Taj Mahal in progress--it's upside down here. the ring around the center is a continuous 5" shelf for hanging out on. yes, it's 4 feet tall. the whole thing comes off the base for easier cleaning. shelves and pan are probably in by now, and since it's mostly 1/2" steel mesh, a bigger door can be added as she grows.
if you have the skills or a friend or relative who does, ask for an early Christmas present!
