Hi everyone! Well I got a new chin to introduce to Kunya. He was sold to me as a male. (Got him from Petco, so I know they could be wrong!) He's younger, so I know it's hard to tell. My boyfriend and I tried to compare Ashe and Kunya last night, but Kunya is 3, so his man parts look different! I just don't want to have any surprise kits! They have been living together for a few days now and someone posted on my picture to becareful because he might be a she! :hair:

So here we go!

<keeping my fingers crossed!!> Thanks for any help! Or if anyone could tell me exactly how to check for hair rings that would help too. I just did not want to torture my lil guy if I did not have to.

Oh my gosh Rach, I think Ashe is a girl but I'm not sure. This is the link for sexing baby chins -

OHHH NOOOO! The pics we took match the girl pics! Well all I can do now is seperate them and pray there is no chance of pregnancy. I cannot believe this! I should have known better though and this makes me look like a total idiot!

But thanks for your help, 3chinsowner!

It is kinda hard to tell, but in the second picture, it looks like a boy to me. But the first looks like a girl...hm...

From the pics I would say your chin is a girl. Can you see a horizontal slit under the cone? If so, girl; if not boy.

Petco is exactly where I got my "boy". I can't believe how careless they can be with a $160 pet! I really wish I could give them a piece of my mind but I no longer have any kind of receipt or anything linking to them at all =/ sigh so I guess in my case they get away with it. If you have some kind of documentation to link it to them I would go back and raise ****... I would never take my new chin back but the least they could do is give you your money back in store credit so you could buy supplies for her. Btw if they don't want to cooperate and you still want to pursue it, you would win if you took them to small claims court. By law when you purchased the pet you were promised a certain gender. You didn't get what you contracted to get. It's just wrong when pet stores do stuff like this. It's wrong to the people and their pets.

looks like a girl to me too! One way to be sure also, is to try and do a hair ring check, if you can't get anything to come out, it's a girl.

My chin I got from a petstore lived with 2 boys for almost two years. There weren't any suprise kits untill march this year. Don't worry, I don't think a few days could've done harm. (But you never know) It made me very mad, I wonder what happens when they actually do get a boy in the petstore, will they think it's a girl too?

It certainly could. Chins can get pregnant within 30 seconds of meeting. The best thing to do is count 111 days and prepare for babies until those days have passed.

Yes, there is a slit that goes from end to end on the cone (top part, pointing towards the abdomen) so that looks like he is she. Now I made an appt for Kunya to go to the vet on Monday for a well-check up, then he is going to be neutered. I feel bad about that but I want them to live together, so it has to be done.

My questions are:
1) Has anyone ever done this before?

2) After he is neutered and is clear to move back in, will they remember eachother?

I feel like the BIGGEST idiot ever right now! I just want them to live happily together and this seems to be my only answer. I am sooooo stressed right now!

That is exactly how I am feeling right now rach_leigh. My male is going for an consultation on saturday and getting neutered the next week. I know neutering chins seems a little more commonplace these days but it still worries the heck out of me. I don't know what I would do if anything were to happen to my boy. Documentation or not I'd be marching into Petco and taking them for everything that they got.

I'm sorry for adding to your stress, the same thing happened to me with my first 2 chins over 5 years ago. After they were first put together a baby came almost 4 months later. Whiskers must have tried to "do it" with her right after she had the baby because she attacked him. He wasn't seriously hurt and after a few days I got him neutered. Sadly, she tried attacking him again so they never got to be cagemates after that. I've heard also that the smell of surgery or the vet's might have something to do with being rejected by a cagemate but not sure. Good luck, sorry this happened to you.

Aww, thanks Chinch&Chilla. We can go through this together then. I am worried Kunya will hate me! I am teetering on the idea of just having them live seperate, but I want to talk to my vet first and I was planning on asking her if they could give me any other owner's phone # so I can talk with them. (I highly doubt this though...I work in an ER and deal with HIPPA, so I am sure vets probably have he same kind of privacy) But yeah....I am going to go into Petco with some pictures printed out of Ashe's parts and the sexing page from CnH to see what happens. Wish me luck! They should maybe stop selling chins if they are unable to sex them properly and causing owners TONS of stress!
