I adopted a new chin boy, 3 years old Bartolomeo. He is huge. Look at the 4th picture closely! He eats all right and drinks water as normal chins. He is quicker than he looks. I am not giving him treats! Is he too fat/big?

He is a cute big boy! Congratulations! I don't think he is too fat, I think that he is just a big boy :)).

You can't really tell just by looking at a chin if they are "fat" or not... from what I've read here, the best way to judge is to feel the spine and ribs. If you can feel every little vertebrae on the spine and every single rib, a chin is too skinny. If you can't feel ANYTHING, neither spine nor ribs, a chin is too fat.

With a perfectly proportioned chin, you can feel the ribs and spine under some padding. There was one person on here who had a chin that was so fat (it was an adoptee or a rescue, it came from people who fed it junk) that the poor buddy had literal fat rolls!

Skinny chins

I have a couple of very skinny and light chins. What should I feed them? I feed them timothy hay cubes/loose, Oxbow chin pellets, and very rarely chin cookies...

He's not fat, he's just big boned! lol

he is adorable and looks healthy. it wouldnt hurt to get a small kitchen scale and keep track of his weight. I weigh my boys at least once a month. that way if there is weight loss i can keep an eye on them and rule out any illness.

He doesn't look too fat. The best way to put weight on skinny animals is lots of good quality pellets, hay and fresh water
