I know that people have mentioned in path threads that it is OK for chinchilla babies to be introduced with dad. Our latest set of kits (only one) is almost getting ready to be weened from mom. All babies are male and we are wondering if it is possible to introduce them with dad and house them together?

If so is the introduction process different from two adult chins?

Will the dad bond immediately with the babies even if he has not been housed directly with them? He can hear them and probably smell them as mom and babies share one half of an FN-142. The babies would be going into a full split level FN-142 with or without dad.

Males don't recognize their offspring, so I'm not sure he would bond with them immediately. It is always easier to get young chins bonded to older chins as long as the older chin is not overly aggressive. You can start off with dad in half of the FN and babies in the other, maybe put dad inside a cage that can sit in the FN and give the little boys free run. Introduction doesn't have to be as slow as with adult chinchillas, but precautions should still be taken.

Help...are there some other tips here? We have had "Surprise" in the cage right next to the males while he was with his mama. Now it is time to get the boys all together. Because they have been in cages right next to each other, I took him out today and placed him in the male cage. It lasted about two minutes and one of the males went after him. :cry3:

Before anything could happen I removed him and put him right back in with mama. I would love to have some advice here so I can get them together rather soon.

Thanks,
Roberta

Sometimes they just won't go together. But there are several ways to introduce. You may have to attempt a proper intro. Also always introduce into a nuetral cage never ever put one animals into the cage of another
