I am sure this has been said before but I feel that being redundant about it can't hurt. I just got done mowing my lawn. I had the basement doors open while I was doing this as they are the storm type and I keep my mower down there. Anyway my chins are in a different part of the basement. Even though I crank my air pretty good and they are in a cool basement I noticed just from having the door open not thinking it would warm up down there by doing that I noticed my chins seemed uncomfortable. Now granted this was not extreme by any means and it was still pretty cool down there it still made me stop and think about the potential for danger just by unintentionally overlooking normal day to day habits. Nevertheless I cranked the air even more anyway when I noticed this.

New chinnie owners especially may not know just how severe this can be so I just wanted to bring up the subject again with this being Memorial Day Weekend and all kicking off the summer season. Sorry if I am being redundant but I think it is important enough to say yet again.

I keep a thermometer with the cages, it checks humidity and temp. It helps a lot during the random temperature spikes.

Same here, I check my thermometer every time I go in their room.

Our central air is out today!! Repair guy is here now. Thankfully we keep 2 window units in the house for backup and emergencies. :p

I have chins in three different rooms. I have thermometers in each room which I check several times a day. Another thing to keep in mind is to check the filter on the AC. If it gets too dirty, the AC does not work well and the room/house can heat up in spite of having the AC run day and night.

I have 3 thermometers to check one room. I want to make sure one side isnt hotter than the other and they all stay cool.

i have two thermometers in my chin room, and a portable AC unit. if either thermometer goes above 20 celsius, AC gets turned on.

thankfully, it is nice and cool enough outside today that i don't have to turn on the AC. got all the windows open and chin room is sitting at 17 celsius with humidity below 40% :))

Great idea about the thermometer! Thanks! I'll definitely be getting me some for the chinnies! This is my first summer with them so like I said before I have to consider them in routines that I have done for years and adjust accordingly.

Thanks for the reminder! It's my first summer with my chinnies as well, and although I keep them in the coolest place in the apartment, and the air is on all the time, I think getting an extra thermometer is a good idea.

I'm not sure if I trust the AC one to be 100% accurate, and it's better to be safe than sorry.
