well i have 2 males housed together, they have been since they were weined when i got them from the breeder.....they continued to live together, well today i went to feed up before work because i have to close tonight and wont get out till late, well oreo's hair was ALL OVER the cage, so i took him out and looked him over, behind his ear he has a spot that is the size of 2 quarters and completely bald from nugget ripping it out...i seperated them immediately because of the extent of fur ripping that happened...also nugget doesnt have a pull on him so he must have been attacking oreo...my poor baby.... :(

its much larger in person, it kind of wraps around under his ear by his neck, this was the best i could get ..

oh im not really mad at him, but im very upset that he did that to my pretty boy :( oreo is one of the prettiest ones i have and now hes furless ughh. im just glad he is ok and i now have him with my other boys, i tried to be fair and put 2 in each cage cuz all 4 were together and nugget kept attacking everyone but oreo, but now i see he is just aggressive, so he will live by himself.

Similar thing happened with my pair except it was my oreo that was beating up on snickers. Good thing u caught it before anything worse happened.

Poor baby, looks like he'll be okay though. How long does it usually take for them to regrow their fur?

That's a significant fur pull so yeah, you did the right thing by separating them. I took in two rescue boys two months ago that were together for two years and the change of environment even though it was to a much better one really upset the dominant one and he started bullying his buddy by excessively chasing him, pulling out bits of fur and when I noticed nip marks on his ears, that was it and I separated them. They're both doing okay as singles though and the little bullied guy seems to get along pretty well with my other single boy and at least I've got them out together at playtime but am hoping to house them together soon.

i havent had any changes in environment, i bought these two from spoof in november after they were weined and im pretty sure they were housed together before i even brought them home, i have never had any problems out of the two and was completely shocked that this happened....im very glad i caught it before work two...it broke my heart that my poor little oreo is missing that much fur, he also had a slip by his but , nothing serious though....the only reason i saw the big one was because i took him out to inspect him after i saw all the fur all over the cage!! :( MEAN MEAN MEAN NUGGET!!!! so now he is by himself because i fear that he will maybe kill one of my chinnies and i dont want to risk it..i go to work at 5 and come home anywhere from 10-12 soooooo thats plenty of time for him to kill one if he wants to, so i think its best he stay a single chinny for his life , cuz thats a risk im not willing to take at all........ and i will give him some get better kisses for you also lol :)

also i was curious also, how long does it take to grow back ?

I experienced this once, but worse, and lost a chin. Besides the large amounts of fur that were missing we found smaller lacerations on other parts of his body. You may want to gently blow or pick through the fur to make sure there aren't any bite marks or cuts that could need some blue kote. Oreo may have taken a defense chomp or two a nugget, so you may want to check him over to just to be safe. Poor baby, hope he heals up fast.

There doesn't have to be any changes at all. One can just decide that he hates the other one out of the blue and go for the kill. I had two cagemates that were constantly grooming and cuddling together. They never slept alone. I went to bed with them cuddling and grooming, woke up the next morning to one laying in the bottom of the cage covered in bite marks and in shock. I ended up losing him.

Like it was said, blow through all of his fur and look for bite marks.

In my experience it takes quite a few months for the fur to grow back..I think it took Bostin about 4 when he had a large fur slip.

You want to breed, right? Then get ready for a LOT worse than this. That? That was nothing. Pfft, a chin can do that to themselves just playing. Wait until you have eyeballs poked out, ears ripped off, half a face hanging by the skin. Then you can be mad. This? I'd be HAPPY if my chins did this when they got into a fight.

:(.....thats horrible

I have to agree with Tunes. You're lucky all you came home to was pulled fur. I'd love to find that instead of a dead chin or a chin about to die from the wounds and just the whole trauma of the situation.

GRAPHIC! Parental supervision is advised. It's not gruesome or bloody but it's not pretty. This is a female who was in breeding and her male ripped into her face. her face healed like this and now she can barely see and has trouble breathing or even finding her food. The fight occured about four years ago and has not produced since.
