I adopted 2 boys tonight, and they came with a nice size cage. They have some pretty good accessories in their cage too. I know I have to make some changes to make it safer for them. I dont like the wiring on the upper level, so I have to remove that. I really need some ideas as to how I can make this a better set up? Here are pictures of the cage.

Thank you for your help!

I agree with you about the wire floor on the 2nd level. If that can come out I would put a bunch of wood ledges in there. The bottom can use some wood too -- there are a lot of small perches but there isn't much for them to hang out on. And you can't go wrong with a fleece tube!

Looks good. I question the green thing haning on the wall. Might remove that. You can put fleece on the PVC tube if they chew it too much. However with so many other goodies I hardly think that would be a problem.

You can cut pine board and place over the bars. Or make some very padded fleece pads to cover the area. Thick ones will not allow them to fall through when standing on them. You will have to make several as you'll have to wash them if they soil them often.

One last thing. I see an animal kennel next to the chins. Not a problem for me. Just make sure that you make it YOUR NUMBER ONE PIORITY to make sure your doors are locked each time you open them. Good luck with the little ones.

that's a feisty ferret, i have the same cage and like it very much. However, i don't have the wire level in the middle. i didn't even bother putting it in. the bottom is all pine shavings and i have wood ledges all over the place. i did put the two plastic levels it came with in because theyre larger BUT my chin doesn't chew plastic. his wheel is on the back wall. he has two hammocks and he loves the cage. good luck!

i have this cage too and took out the wire middle. It has been fine since. it will be interesting to see what you come up with as i am in the middle of redesigning my cage too.

Thats our dogs crate. She wont sleep in anything else. Ive been trying to take it away, but she looks for it. Thats her favorite sleep spot.:cute:

i have the same cage. my one rescue is in it now. i left the middle in and all the shelves becuase fortunately for me any of my chins that have lived there were not plastic chewers.

i have had the cage several years. Richie was the first to live in it. he was so big and bounced so much that he broke one of the sections of wire where a shelf was. had to glue it back.
Zucca was second to live in it and now chewy. none of them chewed and all of them loved going thru the various levels set up. of course i added wood ledges, a hammock, ther was a tube in there once. wooden house. etc....

i also custome cut my fleece liners to fit the openings.
just measured and layed in in there & then snipped where the opening was.
