I quit my job

If jobs were so easy to get and so easy to come by, I wouldn't be working where I do now. I work my butt off and get paid pretty much nothing for it. If it were really that easy to get a job, I wouldn't be there for 2 years PLUS...

Good luck, but I don't think you're going to have as easy of a time finding a job the way you think you are. Not very many jobs are open because people can't afford to quit, employers don't want to hire extras because they can't afford to pay them, and the only jobs that are "easy" to get are jobs no body wants.

With only working 1 hour per week, why not remain at the current job while you look for another. A job in hand regardless of how few hours, is always better than none at all and often will lead to more hours.

that's what I tought. It gave you a little pocket money while having plenty of time job hunting. I have a college degree (but it's not the same as in the US) and I have a lot of trouble finding a job. In the last option, I might have to resort to make photocopies at Staple, even if I'm a graphic designer...
Anyway, I wish you luck Amanda.

Last summer, before the economy tanked, I could not find a job in education despite being a new teacher (cheaper to hire), despite spending a year at a school that was in the top 100 schools in the nation, and despite being AP certified. I finally found a job an hour away teaching seventh grade... not exactly what I wanted to do. Finding a job now is tough, especially minimum wage. Most places will hire a younger kid because they can keep them on minimum wage longer. Just keep an eye out for something and stick with it... set up a goal setter savings account and put your money into it!

Best of luck to you!! :)

If you are looking for a place to just make some money, esp. at minimum wage, I'd look into baby stores, toys r us, babies r us, and other places like that.....since you want a baby. I'm only suggesting that since it appears you are open to any job, so a particular field isn't terribly important to you. If you get a job at a baby/child place you can possibly get discounts and have flexible hours when the time comes that you and Dusty are ready for children. Babies are very expensive, time consuming and stressful, so just be prepared. :)

I still think you're selling yourself short at minimum wage. IMHO, minimum wage is approriate for high school students, who still live at home, and whos parents pay for the house and food, and the bills, and they just want the extra cash for those new jeans. But at the same time, I also understand the economy is in the toilet, and people are taking low paying jobs just to have SOME sort of income.........Tunes...if you find that job as a chocolate taster, making $75.00 an hour, get me an application! I'd love that job too!

Wow... that's a pretty daring move in Michigan.

We're the #1 state in unemployment... even beat out DC... 12% according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Good luck to you!

Another thing that employers dont like to see, on applications or resumes or what ever you choose to use, is gaps between employment. Times are hard and looking for a job is going to come slow.. The longer you are without a job the harder it is to get one. The last two jobs I had.. I got because I knew someone.. Sad huh? Im going to school. I have a lot of experience is many different job areas. And for 8 months I couldnt find a job on my own. But Im ok with that. I asked for help and it was given to me.

But dont expect since you found a job so easily in the past that it will happen now. The economy had indeed changed. The bar is set pretty high for wanted employees. Even the best of the best arent getting jobs right now.

Well.... good luck finding something.

I wish jobs were as easy to find as you say... I graduated from college in 2007, #1 in my class, with a 3.97. Can't get a job in my field, because psychology jobs require more advanced degrees than a bachelor's. Also, can't get a job in fast food or many retail jobs, because I'm "overqualified," as I already have my bachelors and now I'm going for my J.D. (graduate law degree). Oh, and I can't get a law-related job, cause those all require you to be in the top 10% of your law class. Which, well, I'm nowhere near. So, as a result of all this, I am STILL working at my dead-end job at Meijer, making $7.40 an hour (which is nowhere near we get paid for the crap we put up with - I'm sure it's like this everywhere)..... I've been at the same job at Meijer for the last 5 years. And that's NOT cause I haven't applied anywhere.

In the last... year (?)... I've had TWO interviews. One at Petsmart, and one at a law firm, for a law clerk position. Apparently Petsmart didn't like me, never did hear back, and I'm still waiting to hear from the law firm..... I'm sticking with Meijer until something better pops up, but at this point I'd be jumpin just to take a McDonalds job....

Agreed, it's VERY tough out there. I've worked Front Desk now for 7 months or so?? and now I'm looking into a job in my field (medical related) and fortunately there are a few but most are because I know people already working at those places. I wouldn't dare quit this job though until I for sure had another position secured.

A lot of people are over here! They were hiring people STARTING at $10.50 a few months ago.. Its up to $11/hr now.

It is very true that it is all about who you know. I had been looking for a law job for almost a year- and I was even willing to be a paralegal or anything! You think lawyers can always get jobs, right? Nope. Not even doing data analysis or anything boring like that- which, 1-2 years ago would hire anyone, even a law student. Now I couldn't even get an interview as a graduate with honors.

I got very lucky, and a friend from school got promoted in his brokerage firm from in-house counsel to v.p. of recruiting. He got me an interview, and somehow, by the grace of God, (seriously) I got the job as in-house counsel. There is no way they would have even looked at my resume if it weren't for him. They got over 250 applications in one day. It is crazy. So really, talk to everyone you know, tell them you are looking for a job, and keep yourself out there. There are plenty of free places that will help you with your resume, and I suggest you get one- even if it is just so you know you are not misspelling things on your application, and it is much easier to hand them your resume than to fill out a long boring application. Good luck!

It's true that networking is so important. The last job I had, I got it a bit because I was taking the place of a friend that was in my year at school (she got promoted). Recently, I got an interview for a job and it's mainly because the brother of the owner of the compagny was an ex-coworker.

Wow! I'll take it!! Flipping burgers would beat folding clothes and dealing with people that want to return things that are worn/stained/ripped with no receipt anyday...

Just another tip: If you apply somewhere, do not expect them to call you. YOU call them to follow up on your application. Sometimes they will tell you that they haven't looked it over yet. Keep calling. Seriously... I applied to 8 places when the economy was really good (I'm a HS senior so it was just with small businesses) and NOBODY called back. The only reason I got the job I have was becasue I kept following up. If you act like you are serious about the job before you even have it, it looks even better for you.

Also, keep in mind that employers really don't like to see "job hopping" and would rather take a person who has never had a job over someone who has held many over the last couple of years. I'm not saying that you've left many jobs (I really don't know, all I know about is BK) but I'm just telling you to keep that in mind for the future.

thats why on my apps i only put the most news job i had before if i haven't had a job in a long time i put nothing.

Be careful with that.

Omitting jobs from your resume is considered lying in some circles and can be grounds for dismissal if you're hired and your omission is discovered later.

In your area is there some organization that does job-seeking workshop? I when I lost my job back in 2005, I went to one of those. I met other people and I networked, the organizer helped me on how to make a good cv and how to be better in interview. You might want to check you local paper and see if there is such an organization around.

Exactly. I also wouldn't leave it blank as that makes you look like you have no experience at all which can be even worse.
