I Purchased A Pair of Chins from a Breeder last September - All fine and dandy..... They got along fantastic ! Even had a Kit (Which has been weaned for 3 weeks or so. ) I had kept cages close (Though, not so close that breed back could happen) Just to keep them familiar with each other.
For the past three weeks or more, all has been terrific ! Last night, both were "Snuggling" with each other. I noticed nothing out of the ordinary throughout the day - I had not viewed them for perhaps 2 hours and all heck had broke loose ! My Female is really "Beat up" - WHY ??? I separated them. My Male bit her ear and tail, she is quite depressed - They had been together for almost 4 years before I purchased them. Why this problem now ?
Any other questions that I have not addressed, please ask. Thank you, Grace

There is only one answer anybody can give you - because they are chins. There is no why, no how, no what if. Chins fight. They get along for 4, 5, 10 years, then they kill each other.

Not all chins, obviously, but some. It can happen from a noise, a change in the cage, or the grass growing too long. It just happens.

I hope she's alright! If there was a lot of chasing, she is probably very tired and has low blood sugar. You want to separate them and get her to eat and drink. If she is especially lethargic, you may need to get something like some honey water or something sweet into her to get her out of it. But, at that point, you would also want to be on the phone with the vet for some assistance.

Watch her very closely for the next few days...she needs to be eating and producing droppings. Many times chins end up with their digestive systems slowing down with possible stasis or blockage.

Sometimes it's just so unexplainable WHY they will fight, they just do. The male may have been trying to mate with the female and she may have gotten feisty...and then the chasing and uncontrollable craziness started.

I hope that she's alright...it was probably the change in environment...maybe her cycle changed, too.

Thank you - She is at my Vets now - However does not look good - I am so VERY sad, as I NEVER thought this possible...... They were ALWAYS so loving toward each other ! Again, Thank you, Grace

They are not much different than people in that they are all lovey dovey for years and then one minute and something snaps and one or both end up dead. Hope everything works out for you.

I don't really want to talk, Although I do appreciate the help - Brazzy had to be "Put to sleep".

I'm so sorry, that is such a shame. Sadly, it's not uncommon for these things to happen, like others said... chins are very picky creatures. I'm so sorry for your loss, Grace.
