This happened about 2 hours ago, so I'm much more calm now. I was shooken up for a while.

So, my mom's driving me home from rehearsal, and we turn onto our street. The car in front of us STOPS. We were wondering why, until we saw them THROW A PUPPY OUT OF THE CAR!!! He freaked out, went underneath their car, and thank god they didn't run over him! They were right in front of us, that poor thing was swinging his head back and forth, trying to get back into the truck, and when he was out from underneath, they just sped off!!! When he was struggling, he looked my mom and I right in the eyes. I swear.. I've never seen fear like the fear in his eyes. It was terrible. :tissue:

After the car sped off, the dog ran down the street. My mom turned around and I got out of the car to see if he'd come to me. I just couldn't leave him without at least trying. I looked for him, didn't see him right away. Then about 30ft away I saw him. He was standing perfectly still. I saw that he was obviously scared, so I crouched down instead of standing strait up, put out my hand and called to him, and nothing. I tried one more attempt, and just slowly took one step forward.. and his head went down, and he continued to stare me down. If it were a smaller puppy, I would have risked it, but he was a good sized puppy (he looked to have pit, not that it really matters, but if I'm going to get bit by any dog.. I'd rather not by a pit).. so, I backed away. As soon as I backed away and opened the car door, he took off. He went into a neighbor's yard. I tried one more time to coax him out, but I couldn't even see him anymore. We had no choice but to go home. :(

Poor thing.. how can people be so cruel? I swear, I hate humanity more and more every day. :vomit:

People are terrible. I don't know how anyone can take a puppy, a dog, a cat.. anything and just throw it out the car.

Maybe you should call your local shelter or something, tell them what happened and that there is a loose dog around so maybe they can get someone to pick it up? That way it isn't wandering around looking for food or getting hit by cars.

Poor thing :[

I'm sorry for the puppy that was dumped ..and I'm sorry you had to witness such a horrible act by a human being. Hopefully, the puppy finds a loving human and a forever home ...and not something worse.

This kind of thing is what seals the deal for me ...I am all about the animals!

That is so sad. Hopefully nothing happens to the dog and that the dog doesn't bite any one.

Oh, it was just terrible. :( I swear I'll never get that image out of my head. I will call the spca tomorrow and see if they'll come out. I hope they find him, and even if he turns out not being adoptable, because lord knows what situation he is from, at least he can be euthanized and pass in peace.. That would be wonderful though if he did find a home. I just hope I don't go out tomorrow and see him on the side of the road. :tissue: I've just... always heard of these things happening, but never did I think I'd see it for myself. :(

I'd get a description of the truck to the police - bet they're always in trouble, anyway - losers!

Unfortunately, and the saddest part to me, if it's a pit bull or has any resemblance to one, there's a good chance he'll just be put down when they catch him. I hope if he's still young enough the shelter can find him a good home. But wow, I could not have even imagined people being so cruel.

I would report it too. You did what you could, now all we can do is hope for the best for this little guy/girl. Who knows maybe you'll cross paths again.

OH that is soooo sad. I saw it happen one time too, I didn't realize at first what was going on but then I realized that they were dumping their dog. It too was a pit-- and it was a big one. I wasn't scared of it at first but the poor dog was scared and did growl and lunge at me. I got their license plate and did call the police. They followed up with me and let me know that the dog was safe. (what they did with it after I don't know). In Toledo, they usually euthanize pits. Sad.

People dump animals around where I live all the time. I'm way out in a rural area, so no one usually sees them being dumped and only find out about them once they show up at someone's house. I think the wildlife of the area has maps printed up with directions to my house...all the stray animals seem to end up with me. We have a pack of outside cats that showed up one at a time and decided the front porch looked cozy, and we have a couple of dogs that came running up one day. Sometimes people claim them because they really were lost (you can tell because they're well-fed and healthy looking in most cases), but most of the time they're scruffy and covered in burrs and look like they haven't had food for awhile. I hate it when they're scared of people and you can tell they've been abused....we took a little dog that was terrified of my boyfriend because he's a man, but who loved to play with women that were smaller. You could tell a bigger male had abused him, because he was the same way with my dad, too. He's warmed up, and is a totally loving dog--a wonderful pet! I can't believe someone treated him that way. It's definitely sad, and I get disgusted with a lot of mankind. I can't imagine treating an animal that way. I guess the only good thing that comes from it is that most of them end up at my home (we have the room for them here) and get the care they need... I guess another good thing is I never have to buy a domestic pet, and get some interesting personalities from it.

I just wish people would realize what it takes to care for an animal before they get it. Maybe then we wouldn't have to deal with this issue so much.

If you ever see it happen again, try to get the license plate and call it in to the cops because that qualifies as animal abuse. (I watch a lot of animal planet SPCA shows, and I saw an episode where that happened with cats--the people who did it got like 8 counts of animal cruelty.)

The area you're in depends on whether or not he'd be put down. If he looks like he's been fought, they definitely will. But if not, he's got a good shot. They'll have to evaluate him and see what kind of attitude he has toward people and other animals--if it's not aggressive, he has a chance. Hopefully they can find him.

Up north in MI I actually know people who have dumped animals. :( They didn't like the fact that their cat was pooping in the potted plants so they dumped her near a farmhouse. The excuse I heard was that she could now be a "barn cat". When I found out I threw a fit at them and gave them a huge piece of my mind.

That's an awful story!
When my mom was visiting her parents in North Carolina (they live in a really rural town) she found a puppy in a ditch, trapped trying to crawl out. She went to all the surrounding houses and asked if it was theirs/had lost it, and they all said 'nah, it's been there a few days'! No one cared! It was awful. Well she was having none of that and scooped the poor thing up and brought it home to her sister who has now adopted the precious little thing and she is happy and healthy. I can't believe the heartlessness of some people.

Someone just did the same thing in Pittsburgh except that it was a grown dog and unfortunatly the dog didn't make it. People are down right cruel these days. I wonder how they can live with themselves.

A lot of people don't consider that animals can feel. They think that a pet is just something there to give them amusement, and then when they get tired of it they can dispose of it or do whatever they want. Like I said, I watch those SPCA shows all the time and it just shocks me some of the things that people will say about WHY they did something horrible to an animal. You hear a lot of "I'm being arrested over a DOG?!" reactions, all the time. I hate seeing how the animals have been treated, but I always feel so much better when I see the good homes they get in the end. I actually look something like this when a judge on there slaps someone with a fine and gives them the maximum jail time: :cheer2: I know, that's probably horrible of me. But most of them deserve it. Someone actually cut an 8-yr-old dog's ears off with a pair of scissors because they wanted them cropped one time--ridiculous! Unfortunately, the maximum time is usually a time that I feel isn't long enough, but maybe some kind of punishment will make a few more people think twice.

Better yet...next time follow the driver to his house and wait there until the police arrive. Then you can have the satisfaction of watching the guy get charged with the crime! Then do this...:neener:

I thought about the license plate after the fact. :( Everything just happened so fast I didn't think of it. My mom keeps telling me though that they wouldn't have any proof and he wouldn't have been charged anyway. I wish that wasn't true.. but I guess she's right. How would they know?

Human kind took animals out of the wild and domesticated them. Now, the very animals we took out of their habitat, we abuse. It's sickening that animals are treated this way, and some humans are disgusting enough to do that. If they didn't have the money to care for him, they should have took him to a shelter (or her) or found a home, not just throw an animal like it's an empty McDonalds cup out the window...
Humanity at it's worst.

I would always get yelled at for bringing stray animals home with me, but they always found a home. Maybe that is why I find animals through humane societies and off of CL.

My husband's parents live on a farm, and animals get dumped there all the time. Sadly, most of the animals are so sick or flea ridden that they have to be put down. We have stray cats that we feed at my house, and we live in town. I'm so sorry you had to see that, but at least the dog isn't with those horrible people anymore (the thinnest of a silver lining, but a lining nonetheless). I hope someone is able to find him, and I hope they are able to rehab him into a happy, healthy dog.

People like that make me pray for a God that is an animal lover!!!
