So, it's official. This past week I have been feeling terrible. I went to the doctor, and I have the piggy flu :( (Swine Flu, H1N1, whatever you wanna call it)

Now my question is, should I stay away from my boys?

They are in my room, and it's where I am currently wasting away. I am the only person here 6 days out of the week, so I'm kinda forced to take care of them.

Should I move them to another area of the house?
How do I go about feeding and playing with them?

Anything else I should know/do to prevent them from getting sick?

I'm a huge germiphobe, so I'm not sure how I ended up getting this, but I intend on keeping it to myself.

Thanks

I don't go in or around the chins when I am ill unless I absolutely have to. When I do I wear a mask and if I'm really sick I'll wear disposable gloves. I would not keep them in the same room as you and I would just forego playtime until you feel better. I'm sure their cage is decked out with enough to keep them interested until then. They may get crabby, but they will survive. I also make sure my air purifier is up and running during illnesses.

Some people swear that diseases cannot be passed and others have had actual experience with their chins developing illness shortly after they were sick. I don't care which way you believe, but my question would be why risk it? If there is even an outside chance you could pass something on, why not take a few precautions to prevent it?

I hope you feel better Brittany.........that really stinks! Is there anyone who could help you out or at the least while moving them out of your room wear a mask & gloves.
did they give you a vaccine or anything or tell you how long you are contagious? maybe after that time frame passes, someone will come and help you. good luck.

They said I'm contagious for 5-7 days or maybe longer, and they gave me the vaccine, not to get rid of it, but to prevent it from happening again. I can see if the neighbors who beg me to watch their dogs every freakin week can come do me a favor by coming over and feeding them. If not, I do have masks and gloves, I should be able to feed them and move them out of the room with no problems.
