1, I have a lot of house plants, my chin doesn't borther with them at first, but lately, he is crazy about my parlor plam, he loves to eat it. I was worried after the first time seeing him eating it, but he seems to be fine. So I am just wondering if its safe for him to eat?
2, I have this friend, she's got tons of gourds in her yard, some of them are huge, so I am thinking maybe i can make a house for my chin, but is gourd safe for them to chew on?
3, I've been giving my chin a chinchilla vitamin C pill every other day, since I read on the internet some people is saying it can prevent illness. But I am not sure if its really necessary?
Thank you so much in advance for helping me out! Nemo says thank you too!:hug2:

I wouldn't let him eat the parlour plam or use a gourd. I have no clue if they are safe but it's not something I would do.

I don't give vitamin c pills to my chins. They get rosehips as a treat which are full of vitamin c and they LOVE rosehips.

i would definitely move your houseplants out of reach of your chin. there are so many plants that can be toxic to pets!

not sure on a gourd for a house. if it was safe, it would have to be baked dry - not sure how you'd go about that without wrecking the gourd?

as Tagna said, rosehips are the perfect vitamin C loaded treat. my boys love them and snatch them from my fingers every time i offer, lol.

Vit C is good for them, but I'm not sure a 'pill' is an appropriate source. If its a chewable, it likely has sugar or artificial sweetener in it among other things. Rose hips would be a better source. I mix Vit C (ascorbic acid) powder in my treat/supplement mix.

BTW, most chinnies LOVE rosehips, but you may want to start by just ordering a small sample of the whole rosehips and a small sample of the crushed. Your chin will have a preference. If you order crushed, make sure it's sifted to get out the prickers. But some chins prefer the whole rosehips regardless of the itchies they get from them. (Just expect some nose swipes and sneezes.)

I'm really glad you mentioned that! I keep seeing our little one sneeze when she has her rose hips. Makes sense now!

The plant is non-toxic, but I would not give it to a chin. If you want a better choice give wheat grass as a treat to snack on during playtime. As far as the gourd, too many species-some are extremely bitter, some are edible, some are mildly toxic to the GI tract, don't bother with it.

Ahhh!

I'm so glad I came to this post and read it. I was a bit worried when my chin sneezed a few times the other day, thinking it may have a cold.

That was right after I gave him a whole rosehip as treat (both of my chins go crazy for rosehips). I rotate treats, in oder to keep it interesting for them, so he hasn't had a rosehip since, and I never saw him sneeze after that.

Now it makes perfect sense.
