I caved and brought home two little rats today. The new (and much bigger) cage came for my two rattie boys today so I had to go to the petstore and pick up a few things for their cage.
Well, I shouldn't have gone to check to see if the little rat that caught my eye last week was still there. He was. I then made another mistake and held him. And one of his cagemates. So home with me they went.
One of my rattie boys isn't doing well at all right now. He's been struggling with respiratory problems for awhile now, but up until now we have been able to get it under control with medication. This time, however, the medicine isn't helping and it's breaking my heart to see him like this.... so I think next week I'm going to have to bring him in to end his suffering.
The hope is that after quarantine, these two new little boys will be able to go in with Remy... and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works out.
One is a beige with normal set ears and then the other is a Himalayan with dumbo ears. So cute! All the ladies at the petstore were so happy that I took the dumbo. There was another hooded rat there who was amazingly friendly and social for being a petstore rat... I almost took him too but I knew I couldn't take three (he had other cagemates left so he wasn't alone). My mother thinks I only brought one home.... she doesn't know I actually go two. Pics to come later once they are more settled in!
