This so sucks! Jeff and I brought in a bunch of wood this morning out of the dryer in the shop and were sitting here, on the floor, just really having a good time with the new toy we were creating. We were diggin' them so much we were heading out to the shop to cut wood for more. Before I ever made it out the door, Jeff poked his head in the back door telling me our shop was on fire. That was a few hours ago and finally we have almost all the soot washed off our bodies, though I think we'll have to throw our shoes and clothes away.
Thankfully, all of our completed inventory is in the house, with the exception of what was in the dryers, but we lost most all of our equipment and ALL of the fresh woods we've collected and cleaned in the last month.
I just need a *HUG*

Oh no! I'm so sorry you lost your shop. I'm thrilled you are both safe. Big hugs from all of us. Extra big from Shelly since all of her chews are from you. :hug2: :hug2: :hug2:

Thank goodness you are both safe. I know the loss of things is hard. I hope you had business insurance to cover your tools and inventory.

Omg, Barbi. Thank every god listening you and Jeff are okay! Are the chinnies and bird all right? Is there much smoke damage inside?

Insurance should replace the shop if you have it, and at least the stuff in the house is safe, but these are crappy times as it is, and for that kind of damage... I'll light candles for you guys and send my love. It'll all get fixed. Just have faith.

No! no insurance. Jeff and I have really struggled financially since moving into this house and had a very hard time finding a company that would even cover our home owners policy for several reasons. (like for one, even though we live on a hill, we're very near a flood zone) The shop is not covered under the policy. Even if it were, as difficult as it was to find someone to cover our house, I'm not sure I'd want to make a claim for fear of being dropped. That is, however, one of the reasons we keep our inventory in the house.
We do some of our work outside, so not all of our equipment was in the shop at the time of the fire. We lost most of PPBN's major equiment though and hand tools, work benches, lumber for hayboxes/houses ect and most of our fresh woods.
Our shop is quite a ways away from our house. In a neighborhood, it would be like our shop is about a half a block away. So there was no damage to the house and the wind was blowing the opposite direction so we never even smelled the smoke.
There is a lot to be thankful for. Thankfully, we had bay doors open so the wind was blowing through the shop and the fire only burnt out one side of the shop.Thankfully the woodshop has a tin roof and a steel frame and because of the direction the wind was blowing it did not get into another attached shop or an adjacent storage shed. Our shop is still standing, it just only has two walls. Thankfully, most of our cholla was stored outside. Thankfully we still have some equipment and can continue to produce product until we can replace some of the better equipment. And even though it threw the circuit breaker for the shop, it didn't get into the main electrical system.
Thanks for all the hugs and good wishes and prayers. I feel better today. PPBN will survive!

((HUGS))

So sorry Barbi...being thankful for all of the things you mentioned above and your good attitude will get you through this...;)

I am so sorry this happened. Thank God you are both fine!!! With hard work and determination you will get thru this Barbi!
Big ((((((HUGS)))))) from the gang here!!

How scary. I'm so glad you and your home are safe. Do you have any photos of the shop? Before and after so we can see the extent of the damage?

I'm so sorry. :( That had to have scared you so much.

You probably should call your insurance agent to find out for sure if the shed is covered or not. My insurance covers outbuildings and also covers anything business related on my property. It wouldn't hurt to ask about it just so you can replace your tools. Filing a claim wouldn't hurt you, they won't drop you for it. What's the point in having insurance if you can't file a claim when something catastrophic happens?

Out here I pay an absolute fortune for home owners insurance and if something happens I will file a claim. That's what it's for!

I recently had a theft from my vehicles on my property and filed a home owners claim for almost $3500. The year before a plastic resin chair flew into my pool during a storm and ripped my pool liner and I filed a claim that was also about $3500. My rates did not go up. Sometimes these things happen. I have lived her over 10 years and those were the first 2 claims I had to file. What is the point of having insurance if you cant use it.
