So everytime I see someone on craigslist/hoobly/kijiji/etc with something bad for chins, I politely email them and say something along the lines of."
Hi there,
I see that you are feeding [insert food here] to your chin. This food is not very good for a chinchilla and it's also more expensive! I would recommend switiching the food to....and also joining chins-n-hedgies.com. There's so much good information there and everybody is so friendly! Anyway, good luck finding your baby a home! He's a cutie!
Thanks,
Erin

That is not the particular example as no one states their food normally.

Today, I saw an ad on my local craigslist selling 7 week old chinchillas and I emailed the guy asking when they would be ready. Of course he said "now" and he's trying to sell them for $150 each with no cage and tbh they look like they've never had a dust bath. I politely told him that it's best to wait until they are 10 weeks or older to let them go to new homes. Of course he smarted off on me.

Needless to say, I let my anger get the best of me and had some choice words.

Why are there so many ignorant people in this world? I understand getting your first chin and not knowing, but geez, someone tries to help you and you act out? Nope, I do not understand that.

Sorry,I just needed to vent!

People don't like to be told that they are wrong... it's that simple, sadly enough.

I feel your pain though.

I just hope they do take my advice, if that means me getting verbally abused VIA email for the chin's sake then that's fine.

Thanks for the reply :)

I avoid CL and places like that for that very reason. sounds like he is just in it to make money. There are a lot of people like that don't take it personally. If someone does not want to change they will not

Some people do wean their chinchillas at 5 weeks, and will sell them. Depends on the breeder. I personally wean at 8 weeks and will let them go anytime after that provided I know they are eating/drinking on their own. 10 weeks is personal preference, not when they HAVE to go.

My animals are priced anywhere from $75-$250..with no cages. Prices are up to the owner--who cares what he's charging? He's the one who will have to sit and keep the chins if/when they don't sell :)
