I have to move and can't take my chinchilla with me. It would be way to hard on her. How can I deal with not having her around anymore. How can I find a good owner to take her? Is there some questions I can ask to make sure she goes to a good home? :(

you can contact the canadian chinchilla rescue, they may be able to help you with finding a home or ask if you can use their questionnaire.

Our chinchilla has moved 4 times and every time has been totally fine. Before we move we always make sure there is a place for her where we are moving. Are you sure you can not find a place where it would work? Moving can be stressful but a little extra work would get you a place where you could keep her. The stress of moving would be negligible compared to the stress of a new owner or rescue process.

Understandable if the circumstance simply won't allow it like if you are going to a boarding school.

I'm going from Vancouver to Dubai. The airline doesn't take chinchilla's in Cabin and were not sure about cargo. The airline said since were going in summer they don't even allow certain animals on the aircraft because of the heat. I don't know what to do. :( I can't imagine a life with out my chinchilla. :cry3: The flight is 14 hours also...

My goodness that is a horrendous situation to be in :(

I know in the past I have looked at international employment and did research on traveling and going through customs with a chinchilla. Thankfully I have never had to put any to practice as I never moved to a different country.

I am suprised they wouldn't allow a chinchilla in a carrier just like a cat or small dog. Dubai customs may be another thing also but some western currency usually clears stuff like that right up.

They don't even allow cats and dogs! Only guide dogs and some birds.. Oh ya, i'm going on Emirates I think. I researched a lot and I don't think i'll be able to get her, her oxbow food.. I don't want to risk her life.. What would you do? If I do have to give her away :( how will I find her a good home? I really don't want the owner to just get bored of her.. I want her to have the best family ever. I really don't know what to do! :(

I have heard of chinchilla owners in the UAE where Dubai is located. I may be making the wrong assumption but if you are moving to the UAE your family is probably more financially sound than most and there are imegration experts and consultants that you could ask some questions of. They would know all the guidelines forms and processes for how to imegrate a pet for certain countries and also logisitics and air travel rules. If speed is not of the essance like one parent can fly and another could accompany you on a passenger vessal voyage across the sea :) I checked into it when I thought I was moving to new zeland. It can be tricky since most anywhere a chinchilla is referenced it is considered an exotic pet so finding what customs category and rule they fall under isn't always an exact science and some countries might require a quarentine really worried me.

I am not saying you couldn't find a good home but you might be able to find a way to make it all work if you think outside the box and have some resources to work with. If you use a search engine for united arab emirates and chinchilla you may find some people in UAE that have chinchillas that may be able to help you understand where supplies are available.

Good luck no matter what you do.

Oh ya, If I can take her what type of carrier is best, and where can I get it? I don't think anyone in my family will take the ship. sea sick... I'm mostly worried about the heat and humidity. What if the power goes out? I'll have to research more on that. Thanks so much for helping me I really appreciate it! <3

I was thinking a service like this might be available, I would really focus on their ability and assurance in managing the customs process. That is the biggest hurdle to the process is making sure customs is not going to be a problem.

None of this would be cheep, but I am just trying to help you think of options. Maybe you could assure your folks that you would work off and repay the costs. I think of how much I would miss from life with my Chillas, she is without a doubt one of the coolest and sweetest animals I have ever known. I hope you find peace of mind with what ever you decide

I'm looking more into animalsaway. It seems the best for me. I'm more hopeful now! After I figure this out I need to make sure there is a pet-store where I can get good chinchilla food bedding toys. etc: If you know of any please let me know!

I think the most full proof supply chain might be the internet, I don't think shipping to the UAE would be a big deal for a big retailer like amazon, there may be some extra international shipping costs. Some of the chichilla supply vendors around the internet might not mind sending there either but it is certainly worth doing some up front research, your chinchilla is lucky to have such a sweet and thoughtful owner.

Some other things to consider is your length of stay in Dubai and the heat. If you are only going to be in Dubai for a year and then back to Canada keep in mind to understand Canada's laws as well because the chinchilla will need to cross another border. Maybe since the chinchilla was already there you can obtain some reimport exemptions and things like that. Dubai is a very desert like climate so be sure your living quarters will have some full proof AC. Temps of 41.3 degrees C is an average high in August

Wishing you the best of luck. Sorry to fill your head with all these ideas, its just that I already did a lot of research because I almost moved internationally one time.

Where planning on moving there and staying there for good, so I don't think i'll need to research to much on coming back to Canada.Thank you so much on all your wonderful ideas!
