It wont hurt them, but it will make them full enough that they wont be as interested in pellets and hay which is of course the most important. A good idea is to give a few crushed peices of rosehip a day instead

I would also say a few crushed pieces of 1 rosehip a day is fine but you also can hand her an applewood twig or other chin safe wood as a treat every day.

I feel that they are safe to give daily as well. I agree with the above post as well... a chin will go crazy for some chin safe wood as a daily treat as well!!

Actually, personally, I do what they mentioned above. I get different types of chew toys and I use them as treats. I use my normal ones every day, but then switch on them a few times a week so for them it's a treat, and it's safe.

I give every chin 1 rosehip a day. It is not enough food to make them cut down on pellets or hay. The vit C, according to studies from Stanford, may be very good for the the connective tissue associated with their teeth.

There is no need to cut down on raisons. Those, and other sources of sugar, should be eliminated. A hind-gut fermenter has no use whatsoever for raisons and all the other dried sweet fruits sold at such incredible mark-ups by chin supply companies.

i give a "treat" bowl every nite. It usually has 1 or 2 small pieces of crushed up rosehips, a small pinch of oats (maybe 5 oats) and either a small piece of crysta's cookies, or 1/2 a cheerio. sometimes instead of the rosehip i give them a small rose bud. the snacks total less than 1/2 of a teaspoon and i give it every night after i clean up their cage and give fresh pellets & hay and usually give them 1 - 2 pieces of wood per day.
Except for Richie..........he gets handfeed and wont really eat any treats. :(
