How much food?

My chinchilla has some fractured bones in his foot and is now on rest in a cat carrier and will be for at least 3 weeks. So I was wondering how much food he should be given? I normally free feed but since he isn't getting any exercise I don't know if that's still ok.

Free feed, chins won't over eat.

Keep a eye on food intake also, chins in pain often won't eat and need to be hand fed critical care.

Still unlimited food. I would keep a measure of the food. If you have a scale, set the bowl on it, set it to zero, then fill it with food and keep a look-out on the ounces that are eaten each day to make sure his food intake is substantial.
