Dear all,

I need some advice. I have a soon-to-be 9 yr old chin, orion, that started drooling in january 2010. I have sent him to the vet and his teeth was filed on 11/1/2010. It has been only about 5 months and he is starting to drool again. :( can I know if it is ok for him to be sent for filing again? I am worried as I understand that GA is bad for chin... :(

Malo chins can need filing every 6-8 weeks, so 5 months between filings is actually good. If gas is used its not "bad for them", its the safest way to get it done. Not doing it is not a option, so make the appointment. Chin teeth can grow 1-3mm a week, so that is why it usually is not a one time thing once a chin needs to have it done.

Has your chin had xrays taken to check what is happening to the roots of the teeth?

As Claire has asked, has xrays been taken? I also believe it depends on the chin and how his quality of life is after and in between filings. Every chin is different. My experience with a chin with malo who has already had 3 filings in the last 5 months, and who has bounced right back with no pain meds after the first day in the last 2 filings, and eats on his own is that this is ok for him.

I have a female chin that has had her teeth filed down every 3-4 months for 6 years. She bounces right back and loves running on her wheel and teasing her cage mate When it gets to every 6-8 weeks and she is in pain, I will make the decision
