How Long Is Your Playtime?

I allow my chin out from 6 PM-10 PM every week day and 10 PM-11:30 PM on weekends. So four hours 5 days of the week and 1 1/2 for the last two.

With everybody I have to do everother day or sometimes ever three days because they alternate. If Im home all day then the boys will have play time during the day(mid afternoon) mostly because they are the only ones awake! When they are out they get from an hour and a half to 2hours. Girls and boys always have seperate playtimes, but not everyone gets along so I technically have to have four seperate play times.

Having a seperate room where all the chins live is a blessing because I can clean other cages while they have playtime and still be able to watch them. The room is only 8 by 16 so the only place they can go/hide in under their cages.

They usually tell me when they are done by going back "home."

Technically it's 2 hours a day, that's how long I like him to have...but that doesn't explain why he's sitting under my bed right now and has been for the last five hours. I don't have the heart to fish him out (ok, ok, I'm just feeling too lazy to try to catch him), so he will probably stay out for the rest of the day. Having him in my chin-proofed bedroom, where his cage also is so he can pop back to it when he wishes, makes it easy to have him out a lot, and still keep an eye on him, although he'll still chew books etc. if he thinks I may have stopped paying attention. :D Yeah right, Hen, I know exactly what you're up to, and if you don't stop you're getting picked up.

Tia only gets about 15 minutes because she starts to limp if it is any longer (for those unaware, she had a broken pelvis).

Bessie gets to stay out until she starts escaping. I've trained her to realize that jumping over the playpen = back in the cage. She's gotten quite good at realizing that!

Typically, I let my chins out 2 times a day, about an hour each time. Despite their 37.5 square foot cage, I find it necessary to let them out as frequently as possible... can you imagine having that much energy and being stuck in a cage all day and night? I also find that doing this promotes more relaxed behavior from them during the day, and especially at night! ( I do need my sleep)
