This may have been answered before, but I have tried searching and couldn't find anything.
There might be a variety of answers, but

How high do most chins jump? Or how high does your chin normally jump?
I am going to order a playpen that is 3 feet high. Will a chin be able to jump over this?

It probably depends on the chin, but for most chins, would you think they would be able to jump over a 3' high playpen?

Also, I am getting a cage that is going to be 3' high. Is this enough room for them? It is the QC Townhome. I was also thinking about getting the QC Mansion which is 4' high. Would the Townhome that is 3' be good or do I need the 4' high Mansion?

the Mansion would be preferrable over the Townhome. chins like to be up high.

as for the play pen, can't help you much there as i don't use a play pen, but have Rhino's room (a 10x10 foot bedroom) chin proofed and i let him run around the whole room. he does manage to get up on the desk from the floor, and the desk is 31 inches tall.

Okay, thanks. The Mansion does seem better, but do you think it would be okay if I got the Townhome? They would still have 3 feet to jump, but not as much as the Mansion.

My boy rarely jumps high in the cage. He usually goes a ledge or two at a time, so a foot of height on a mansion would be more for having more chins in the cage.

As for the playpen... Yes, a chin can easily clear a 3' playpen, but a lot of people cover them with a sheet.

I have the mansion, and quite frankly it's WAY TOO BIG for 1 chin. The town house is more then adequate for space. If you deck it out with tons of ledges, tubes, etc... the chin will have plenty of places to explore.

Yes chins do like to be high but basically no matter what size the cage is, they generally spend most of their time on the highest shelf, if it is 2 ft high they are 18" up off the ground, if it is 3 ft high then they are 30" off the ground, etc, etc...Basically for one chin in a 4ft high cage you will be wasting 90% of the cage space 80% of the time.

I too have the very large mansion but it is for a pair of bonded males, one who is very sweet and will let you hold him and get him out for playtime, the other is a crazy little bleep and a spaz so he needs the extra room to run off his crazy energy.

They never jump from the bottom of the cage to the top or vice versa, they jump from ledge to ledge. I also have two very calm chins in a 24X24x24 cage and that is plenty of room for them.

i have Rhino in a 4 foot tall cage and although he does spend most of his time on the uppermost shelves and his tube, i don't feel the large cage space is wasted at all. then again, i'm prone to spoiling my pets, lol. i will be getting another chin in the near future, and hopefully the new guy will live with Rhino, so the huge cage is definitely something i don't regret getting.

yes, they can clear a playpen. My chin isn't a jumper and has never, in 2 years, tried to jump over her playpen. But as that usually isn't the case for most chins, you can get a pen with a cover, or cover it with cardboard or a blanket that has been attached with clothespins (for example) to hold it in place.

Like everyone has said - they can certainly clear a playpen but some choose not to. A lot of them just don't jump that much.

Highest I've had one jump strait up - 5'+. I'm 5'7 and she hit the wall near my shoulder. I've not had a chin since that was as athletic nor crazy as that one, it's pretty unusual. :p

Yes, chins can easily jump out of most playpens that are not covered. I have this playpen: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Pet-Fold...1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1308504555&sr=8-1 and I LOVE it. The zip-top means that they stay contained, and I can leave the room if I need to. It's also a very low price for what you get. Not to mention the bottom is water-proof, so when they have "accidents" I can easily clean up after them. It comes in several different colors and patterns...I just chose leopard print because that's the "theme" I have for my girls.

Also, I have the QC Mansion for my three chins and they share it well without any problems...and it is certainly big enough for all of them to have ample room. I think for one chin it would be fine, but I also think the Townhome would be more than sufficient. For 2+ chins, I'd go with the QC Mansion. Good luck!

I had 1 chin that would jump out of the ware popup playpen that I still have in a heartbeat if the zippered top was not attached. He was my jumper and this playpen was just under 3" high.
