Her highness gets loose hay. I will also stuff it into a toy and let her pull it out. I've never given her cubes.

I tried to feed Sesame both, but she refuses to eat the hay cubes. I feed a variety of loose hay, but predominately Timothy Hay. Very picky about the hay!

I feed loose orchard grass hay. My chin wastes less of it than he does with timothy. He snubs all the stems from timothy. I give occasional alfalfa cubes as treats, but it's not really part of his main diet.

I feed Phoenix and Sedona lose timonthy hay in a clay pot. I haven't tried the cubes yet. Aren't they not as good or fattening but I might be thinking of alfalfa.
They do make a mess with it but I don't mind some waste. It would be different if it was $20 a bag but it's not. Sedona likes to drag it from the second story down to the first for some reason. She also likes to tip the pot over and scratch and roll in the hay but she still eats quite a bit of it. I think I have really good eaters which makes me happy. :)

When I feed Sierra the hay starts off in the food dish, but she pulls it out and makes a mess out of it, lol.

I voted 'both' but for the most part I give loose timmy hay as well as orchard, oat and botanical grasses. I did give loose brome but it was shortly after that that one of my boys developed bloat so I was too nervous to give it to any of them after that. It may not have been the problem but I wasn't risking it b/c bloat is not fun to deal with.

I do have the cubes as well but honestly none of the chins really chew them much and they tend to just kick them to the bottom of the cage or pee on them. Doesn't stop me from putting them in though, just in case. Seems I like to waste the little bit of money I have.
